So… How do I buy the Chinese 5th Anniversary Top Class Card Set?

I saw the promo card for this set, and I immediately thought “oh god… this is going to be way out of my budget.” But alas, upon further reading, it said “The product will cost 2800 NTD and 680 HKD, or about $88,” which brought a wave of relief for me!

The real issue now, is I have zero clue how to obtain anything from China. Does anyone here know how to get product from China? Would be amazing to add one of these promos to my collection; I always miss out on releases like this, or apply for Japans raffle entry and inevitably lose :joy:

I appreciate any help in advance!

@Bingbong

woah. just looked that up and that full art promo is the first modern card I’ve wanted to buy in a while… Wonder if it’ll be available in Japanese.

What’s the set number? Although I live in China I don’t keep up with releases :man_facepalming:

Given the prices I assume you’re talking about the Traditional Chinese set:

So first of all, don’t panic. It’s not English or Japanese, not 2023, not yet released, and the card inside is still possible to be released in other languages. There’s no reason to FOMO it. There are only two famous cases of Traditional Chinese single prices going wild (EBD Lillie and Victini ex), and neither of those occur until at least half a year later of their releases.

And by “how to obtain” I assume you’re asking “how to obtain with prices as closest
to MSRP as possible” because if you don’t care about costs it will eventually show up on eBay, and you just need to buy from there.

In that case you shouldn’t get them from China, as this is a Traditional Chinese product which will only be released in Taiwan and Hong Kong, and by buying from China you will most likely run into extra costs of routing through China or premium prices set by sellers just like eBay (your best bet will be finding sellers registered in Hong Kong, which requires you to understand some Chinese to look for).

As for Taiwan or Hong Kong, there are some famous local marketplaces or card shops including:

Scrap some Chinese keywords from the official announcement and search them on the sites should help you find some listings. (I can even find preorder listings on Ruten now as I type this.)

After you find the listings, read this nice thread and you should know what to do next:

Well these boxes are exploding in price and skyrocketed.
I’m assuming these were kinda “limited” ? Or were they easy to buy?

The release has been split into several waves from what I heard from the site I bought it from. So at least currently the supply is indeed limited. If someone else knows more details though feel free to add them.

damn yeah… I really hope this gets a restock; I spent the last 45 ish days packing up my life and moving across the country for a job my wife was offered, so I unfortunately missed this one  One of the few promos I’ve liked recently. Hopefully we get another one this nice again soon, or another opportunity to purchase this. If one of you see a restock and happen to think of it, definitely lmk!

So, you figure there will be more available? Btw if you don’t mind my asking, what site did you buy from?

I’m on a similar boat. Was traveling the past month so didnt pay much attention to anything pokemon.

Hopefully ill be able to get one in another wave.

Well, not 100% sure if there will be more, but since another store has a big red banner on their site announcing new stock, there will probably be some new supply available indeed.

The site I bought from was Imagined Youth Collectibles, which also to my knowledge should have had pretty much the best prices at least of the stores shipping to Europe.

Been keeping an eye on the prices, the graded promos have plummeted significantly (no surprise) the box has dropped a bit from the peak hovering around $400.

On the other hand the sealed promos are still climbing at around $300, not keen yet on paying this amount.

If there are any more reprints coming i can see the price climbing down in the short-mid term but i highly doubt this promo will hop back to the “msrp” or near that range.

Yeah I’m definitely not keen on paying anything near that either… I’m hoping reprints come and I can get closer to the original price for sealed, even if it’s $200 for sealed that’s something I’m willing to do.

Thank you for this info! That’s reassuring

Not wanting to be discouraging or anything, but my post was from November and that restock happened and has sold out in the meantime (or at least I assume that what’s happened since the product can’t be found in the store anymore and the banner is gone).
