@Swoobot What are your thoughts on this topic? How do you think this will affect the market for Japanese Pokemon cards?

LMAO

Very true. I hope BGS prospers in the EU

Could be but as @charizardespana said there’s already the tax of 20% from all goods from US to EU.

This will be increased? who knows?
Honestly I think that from this whole situation who has more to lose are some countries that massively export to US, and my country is highly involved.

They already did. This just came in:

Due to U.S. tariffs announced on Wednesday, April 2, PSA will be temporarily pausing the acceptance of PSA grading submissions directly to its U.S. facilities, including through PSAcard.com, from customers located in all countries outside of the United States. This is an expansion on previously announced restrictions on direct submissions coming from Canada, China, Hong Kong, and Mexico.

This is going to be a massive loss for psa tbh

It will be a loss for everyone. I’ve been working in both EU and US markets and on average cards cost 25% more in EU because of these taxes.
Not even going to mentions how difficult it will be to move things thru companies like PSA, auction houses or consignment services.
The US consumers are in for a rude awakening when this fully kicks in and the dust settles.

Rip. I just cant financially justify my participation in this hobby if I cant grade/sell to fund my collection. What a shit situation

Reply from governments hit by taxes are “we will find new markets”, do you have any idea for new markets of slabbed cards?

Tragicomical situation, more tragic than comical…

Psa seems to be implementing a charge based off of the submission value too, which is wild.

This is from a UK perspective.

Can anyone confirm this?

Based off card value, not the submission cost.

Come on down, ACE Grading!

I’ve been procrastinating shipping off a box to PSA for a few weeks and now can’t print the submission forms. I guess thats what I get for being lazy

cgc uk might be the only option, I can’t believe I’ve just said this and I’m slightly disgusted at myself for it but that table needs food putting on it

It reads like since it’s a new tarriff there’s no indication it’ll be exempt through the usual customs route.

What a mess

ACE have been closed to regular submissions for nearly 2 months. I don’t think they can handle the extra level of demand they will receive if they actually re-open anytime soon!

Couldn’t they simply open a grading point in EU like BGS?

I believe they don’t grade within the UK, it’s just a hub to America so not sure if that would protect from tariffs or not?

Just messaged someone at CGC UK, looks like they have a Temporary Importation under Bond (TIB) license so probably won’t be effected.

I live in Canada , just wanted to ask if buying cards from Japan , and US will effect me as well ? I’m confused about all this lol I see some say no and some say yes :smiling_face_with_tear: Buying graded seems more and more difficult now with all this going on

If you live in Canada, you already have import taxes in place so not much should change (unless there are reciprocating tariffs put in place by Canada).
