For those of you in the US ordering through proxy sites like buyee for Mercari etc. Are you getting charged tariffs and if so at what %? Thanks
So far yes with FedEx, no with EMS.
Of course this could just be my experience and/or the laws might not have been in effect when I shipped, but I’ve heard similar results from other members.
Thanks Scott. I’m assuming you got hit at 10% from FedEx which I believe is the current rate and possibly soon to be 24%.
Just received a package today through EMS. No tariff.
Just received a package today via EMS, no tariff.
none with ems, stopped using fedex when i got hit with like a $150 bill from them
Well EMS seems to be the cheat code… for now any how
Always use EMS. I’ve never paid fees via EMS.
Not japan but ordered a bunch of stuff from korea used fedex and no tariff
Have been afraid to order from JP, but might… Partly just don’t want to deal RN. Cant deal RN… Might try, to test it.
I think it’s possible to get hit with a tariff after the item is delivered? Are you guys getting them immediately?
I usually get a letter from FedEx about a month after delivery with a $0.00 bill, but my last package from Buyee might prove to be different
Yes this frequently happens with customs fres in Canada
anyone have any info on highest value they have shipped via ems that has not been hit with trffs? Curious to see what $$ might raise a red flag.. and get hit
I sent an item for 499,999 YEN in May from US to Japan fully declared via EMS and no tariff.
danggggg, nice!! what ya get hahah. i wonder if that will still work now. I might try… will try to update yall with the amount i try. Im worried about the 25% increase.. but hoping again EMS will be fine
There’s a pretty good chance we are looking at 15% due to the official trade deal but it’s not officially in place yet so we’ll see
DHL made me pay a large $200 tariff on an item from japan to US
I think the US recently signed a more long term deal with Japan that brought the tariffs down (or up if you consider the fact that 25% was a future promise) to 15%, if I am not mistaken. But due to de-minimis, you should get away from tax if the item is below 800. However, the de-minimis loophole will be closed in 2027, then everything will be subject to import tax.
I haven’t had any tariffs yet from Japan to my US middleman, but I did have one package with import fees on arrival for a package from South Korea. The fees were 214.50 USD for a package I paid little over 2k for, so roughly 10% + handling fees, I guess. It was shipped with FedEx, which seems to be the main culprit when it comes to US import fees, from what I’ve seen thus far.

I received two packages around 100,000-150,000 yen each today. Neither had issues. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again - always use EMS to the U.S. It will go through USPS and they will almost never charge you. FedEX and DHL will almost always add fees.
USE EMS.
