Well if the 0.1% was the difference between a $350,000 and a potential $1,000,000 card, the discussion is definitely justified. To most it would really not make a difference, but to the right high end collector, it can be a $500,000+ difference.
totally agree with you here. my caveat: if budget permits, then i’ll always go for the “pack fresh-est” card out there. meaning that i’m less concerned about factory defects (print lines, off-centering, tiny white nicks) than legitimate wear (scratching, whitening).
People look for perfection. It’s like racing, you could finish your lap in 27.02 sec and be the 2nd best or you could finish it in 27.01 sec and be the very best.
It’s more like figure skating where the winner is determined by some quasi-subjective evaluation and the “real” winner probably depends on who you ask.
Just to be clear, there’s no way to guess a BGS 10 for “surface” viewing it through a case on video. The huge majority of BGS cards get docked a bit for “surface”,
Normally I like opinion threads when dealing with generalities, not specifics like this as much.
I think this all comes down to is it worth it or does it make sense to try to cross grade this at BGS? I’d defer to Scott who has the card in hand and knows exactly what he’s doing. And not only that, I wish him only the best.
Never said that. People can discuss whatever they want. But if you’re not in the tier of people that can afford this card it’s probably healthy to acknowledge that ultimately your opinion is irrelevant.
Which just goes back to my original post here. This level of chasing perfection and the exponential increase in value associated with an exponential decrease in conditional differences is absurd to me. But ultimately my opinion is irrelevant because I’m not in this tier of the market even if I wanted to be.
