a while ago I got a full competitive deck of Pokemon Cards as a gift along with my actual order.
After a fair bit of research I found out that it’s an (almost) exact recreation of Jacob van Wagner’s “Archie’s Blastoise & Keldeo ex Deck” that he won the Pokemon World Championship 2015 with (at least I think so).
Most of the cards are in excellent-good condition, so not really suitable for a collector. A few Cards have “some” value, like Jirachi ex 60/101, Computer Search 137/149 and Lugia ex 94/98.
I’d like to sell them but I don’t have any understanding of the TCG past 2003 whatsoever, let alone the actual competitive play.
Do you think I would be better off selling the singels or the deck as a whole?
Pokemon has really pushed expanded this past year. Computer search is one of the most powerful cards at the moment. There is a big demand for it, even in heavy played condition…
I’d say atleast sell the computer search alone & the older EX’ses (competitive side on PTCG is really growing and those old EX cards are being used for building ‘cubes’)- then again you could also sell it as a whole deck to… older trainer cards (the ones that are still be used in standard) can fetch a premium to because of the alternative artwork (think ultraball/pokemonfanclub/N)
Your decision, i mostly came by to tell you that a whole contructed championshipdeck is a reallyyy Nice extra gift (NOT the ones/cards released right after worlds, preconstructed with alternative back- thought i would say that just in case you have those, illigal to use in tournaments)
I would just keep it to play some games with it, but then again i’m a competitive player
And to all the people out here- game really isnt that hard to figure out, i compare it to a combo of chess/poker- I’d say try it out online! PTCGO is real user friendly and has a whole trainingMode/challenge that gets you to understand the game before you construct your own deck and play against other people - also pretty much F2P
From my experience, selling the deck as a whole usually nets me an easier sale than selling cards individually, as typically the “hot” cards sell fast but then I’m left with a bunch of cards that are much slower and harder to sell and brings in little to no profit. Selling playable “decks” also helps in the sense that the buyer is usually less picky with condition, as they know it’s meant to be played (but you should still tell them the condition of the “value” cards), whereas selling singles is open to both players and collectors in which the market then shifts to a more condition oriented playing field in regards to purchasing the card.
+1 for giving PTCGO a try. It’s the main reason I got back into collecting physical cards after years away from the hobby. In my books PTCGO beat out everything online including Hearthstone largely in part that you are able to trade. The codes for packs are also insanely cheap since a lot of people buy Pokemon cards but have no interest in using the codes to play online.
