I’ve ordered multiple cards from Japan here lately and can’t find anything about Japan Post being shut down. I bought a $400 card off this guy and he is asking me to send money outside of eBay for shipping cost? I’m sure this is against eBay TOS and it is super sketchy. What do you guys think of this?
If I’m not mistaken someone else on E4 also got a message like this to awhile back but I don’t remember who it was but yeah its pretty sketchy to be asking for more money afterwards.
Nope they should have included that in the shipping cost price. Super shady business practice. I’d just ask to cancel the transaction.
Based on their 17th of March update, there seems to be significant disruption to Japan Post’s service to the US:

If you’re willing to pay the added $99 for Fedex, simply ask him to cancel the purchase and relist with correct shipping costs and buy it again.
This is the route I am leaning. The whole thing just feels suspect.
It doesnt cost any $99. I get stuff from japan all the time: small boxes are $40 and big boxes are $60 with 2-3 days turnaround.
If this happens, I would have them refund and then just buy the item they are buying off yahoo for about 50% less.
If you PM me, I can help you locate the item on the Japanese site and you can work it out from there.
I would print my own label and send it to him and save the 100 dollars. It’s shady
I’m currently living in Japan, and just shipped out nine packages to the US using JP post on the 20th. Not sure how long get will take to get to the US, but they accepted the letters easy enough. They were envelopes and bubble mailers. Nothing bigger than a cd case sized mailer.
Packages, i.e. boxes, must go through EMS as far as I’ve heard and a friend of mine says that none of the ones he sent 10 weeks ago have even landed in the states yet.
About 2 weeks ago, I sent several packages and letters to the states and Canada, the Canada one arrived in 8 days. The US one not too much later.
That’s all the info I’ve got, hope it helps solve your problem.
This is accurate, I’ve been paying about $40 per shipment of about 10-25 cards. DHL is fast, I’ve had cards come next-day
Don’t cancel order or accept one, escalate the case.
That is 100% a scam attempting to sucker you out $99
@icollectr
I have no recent experience with packages coming in from Japan but at least single cards in tracked letters travel normally to Finland. Skip the $99 extra payment.
Last time I bought something from japan it arrived in a small letter via Japan post. It arrived in a few weeks. So they must be sending out letters. Well to Australia they are.
For parcels I have had cards get sent through DHL and I had one sent through Yamoto transport but they haven’t been as expensive to send out, Most parcels cost $30-60 AUD depending on size, weight and zone.
$99 USD I am guessing? If so that is a bit excessive for a parcel.
What the other guys said, sketchy shady I wouldn’t do it. 2 day shipping from Japan via DHL cost me $35 this week
Seller canceled order and refunded. Mods feel free to lock
