S8 Fusion Arts Megathread

Well…I’m disappointed

Without A and B tier sets, there can’t be S tier sets

Smeargle really got his surprisingly big share of love with this set!

SO much good art in this set and then they gotta do Mew like that with VMAX alt. The regular art V and Vmax look better than the alt version :slightly_frowning_face:

@fivesetgo

Great to see Greedent get some love. One of my favorite Gen 8 Pokemon.

A little disappointed with the Mew VMAX alt art, but I like the Elesa/Dancer FA trainers a lot as well as the Genesect, Mew and Greedent alt arts! Nothing suuuper crazy in this set for me though when compared to the Rayquaza V alt in ES, Moltres V alt in CR, and Phoebe/Flannery in BS

I’ll provide a counter-point and say I like the Mew alt art. Mew has often been portrayed with a happy, go-lucky attitude. The alt art has Mew being surrounded by happy, cheerful friends, and so it seems to fit this motif well. It’s fun to remember Pokémon get along and have their own journeys together outside of having human companions.

I would agree it’s not as big of a jump in “coolness” between the regular art and alt art for Mew, as it has been for other Pokémon (eg zeraora). But I feel it’s this way because the regular art cards for Mew are so good, rather than because the alt necessarily looks bad.

I see a lot of comments across the ‘net of people being disappointed in fusion strike. But for me, it’s the set I’m the most excited about this year (outside of the full-art throwback pikachu in celebrations)

Edit: just realized I’m mixing up Mew V and Vmax, oops

All the special arts are fantastic as usual (breakdancing Genesect is incredible) but the selection disappoints me. Not giving Hoopa or Chandelure a special art just doesn’t make sense, those Pokemon would work so well with the special art style.

Only having one special art VMAX is also disappointing.

V alt arts are definitely being more and more appealing than vmax alt arts to me. The mew vmax alt art looks closer to a vmax style than an alt art. It’s good but given it’s supposed to be the rarest chase card, disappointing. I’d take a v alt art any day.

still disappointed they didn’t bring back kadabra yet.

The discrepancy I’m seeing is how like above how Alakazam didn’t get the VMAX is the selection of having choices, mostly meta and traditional have all the elite spots in the higher rarity, post-set reveal zone.

I don’t mind what the alternate arts are, hell I love the Smeargle continuity and the Jet Set Radio vibes with Genesect, it’s that since Eevee Heroes in including every character at its fullest creative equal potential, has pitfallen the sets expectations since in not allowing likes such as Suicune, the big Garbodor and even Gyarados to its personal touch. This relapse effect since Eevee Heroes’ glory has been a downward spiral since.

Not giving Hoopa a alt art is a crime imo. I was so looking forward to one, but I guess the fat rat was more important as a alt art…

After Eevee Heroes, I don’t feel like buying any Fusion Arts booster box. Will probably just buy 1-2 singles.

The common uncommons alone make me excited to open this set.

They flipped the script. SR selection is even worse than usual but the commons, uncommons and regular holos are beefed up significantly.

Although I’m supremely disappointed by the lamb chop receiving the ONLY mon gold card (lol, what the fuck happened?), there is at least ONE positive thing to draw from it: seeing a not fully evolved means I may actually get a Dusclops one day.

Looking at the metrics, the English Fusion Strike is going to be very different from the past three sets. “Only” 13 Full Arts (even Battle Styles has more), and I’m scared that I say “only” - but that’s the precedent these past few sets have made. It’s also strange to me that Boltund is used for promotional art but doesn’t get any alts, and Gengar VMAX is used for promo art but Gengar doesn’t have any alts and the VMAX doesn’t have a rainbow. Just inconsistent with past precedent. Rillaboom and Cinderace VMAX should’ve gotten alts to compliment Inteleon, but that isn’t happening.

The English version of this set is the epitome of what is wrong with the current release cycle. This set is the largest because they had to fit 248 non-full art+ cards into a set, and the chase cards are severely lacking due to being pulled from one middle-of-the-road Japanese set. My wallet will be focused on previous sets for the remainder of the year, most likely.

I think someone forgot to tell Japan that “the art is bad” for Mew VMAX - day 1 buylists are at 60,000 yen

They really don’t do anything wrong when it comes to art but can we please get some f’ing supply though? Every single Pokemon card product is still sold out where I am. Absolutely sick of it.

Modern has spoilt us with set after set of incredible artworks that a set like this, which has incredible art, can be called a letdown lmao.

Having said that I am furious.exe that Chandelure didn’t get an Alt Art.

The potential for some great Halloween Alt Art has been lost. I’m getting the academy art Gorgeist in my head when I’m thinking of an alt art for chandelure.
