The Question of the Day is a way to facilitate community discussion to help members ponder the unanswered questions of the world that are somehow relating to the hobby. Questionsj are many times open ended and up to interpretation. Feel free to post your thoughts in as much or as little detail as you’d like.
Helpful Considerations may or may not help some people focus their answer, these are blurred to not bother those who have their own ideas.
I doubt anything can. Nostalgia is just too strong. If the order of gens was reversed, we’d be complaining about designs like Magnemite/Magneton; Jynx; etc.
No more Pokemon that are actually people in fur suits. Go back to basics. Make creatures that could believably belong to in an ecosystem. Animals, not characters. No soccer players. No magicians. No fabulous dancers. These are not animals, these are people. Cut down on the bipedal humanoid Pokemon.
Clodsire is a S-tier design.
Cinderace is a mistake.
I just don’t think the hype can be recreated. It’s an expansion rather than being a completely new concept which I think was the definitive factory of gen 1’s massive popularity.
That would be awesome. I played World of Warcraft and Star Wars: The Old Republic back in the day. I’d love to see a serious Pokemon game along those lines.
Its probably unrealistic, but give every pokemon more focus and identity. I felt like kanto gave most-all pokemon an episode, merchandise, or a moment in the games. Kanto pokemon felt more fleshed out, perhaps because there were less in total. I played gold, pearl, X, Colosseum, and other games, and have an appreciation for pokemon from later gens, but no generation is as comprehensive as kanto. Although maybe its impossible due to the much larger pool of 1,000+ vs 151 pokemon.

The problem is that they are trying to incorporate every generation, somehow, and unwilling to risk the success of a gen on it’s own laurels. That’s what they need to do. Also, I’d say, make the story more complex, and the map/world more simple. More linear movement thru the map, more focus on pokemon and for those pokemon make them mostly new, maybe 200 total (no nat dex, sorry) with simpler creature designs that really make them feel somehow relatable (if a 4 ft butterfly is relatable…)
This is an interesting thought too. Maybe more personal preference, but I agree.
Look, I’ve been on this journey since I first had to choose between Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle on a blocky little Game Boy. For those of us who have been around since the beginning, we’ve seen the magic evolve, but lately, it feels like some of that spark is missing.
But then I go online, and I see what the community is doing. It’s insane. The fan art for new regional forms, incredible new evolutions for forgotten Pokémon, and even brand-new fan-made Pokémon are just bursting with the creativity and soul that made us fall in love with the series in the first place. A lot of these designs are, frankly, way better than what we’ve gotten officially in the last few generations.
So, why not dedicate one generation to the fans? Just one. Reach out to these talented artists who are already pouring their hearts into the franchise. Pay them for their work, collaborate with them, and build a region around the ideas that are already getting the community hyped.
It would be more than just a game; it would feel like they’re finally acknowledging that we’re still here and we still care. It would bring back so much of that old-school excitement and prove they’re listening. It’s a win-win, and it would make this old fan feel like a kid again.
