QotD: What ideas can make the next generation of Pokémon more popular than gen 1?

This is the best answer I’ve seen on this topic

One gen without any new pokemon : take the 250 least appreciated ones and invest time and love to create more story and background around them so they are not ignored and abandonned.

The goal should be that every pokemon have it’s niche (gameplay and/or fandom wise).

So let’s remove Lucario, Machamp, Eevee (unstable evolution would not allow it to live in many environments, Bellsprout, and a lot of other Gen 1 Pokemon?

I don’t know what you’re talking about, but that reminds me that Rayquaza is overly designed. C tier.

Normally 3 months ago this would work like a charm. Unfortunately I’m almost an adult, so I don’t really feel like engaging with this right now. Your opinion is your opinion ig.

Why they never come to fruition reminds me of this,

For every good fan-made Pokémon on social media is another potentially original creation the designers must scrap. The grand irony about being passionate for Pokémon is perhaps we could have got what we wanted in new Pokémon games if it wasn’t already posted

Want to comment almost same thing. You may make a better designed pokemon but can’t make a popular pokemon than gen 1. Popularity comes based on how long it’s existed. Every newbie video or any promotion starts from either pikachu or charizard or any gen 1 pokemon. Any basic game designed follows the gen 1 pokemon. Every anime has a gen 1 pokemon appearance.

So making a pokemon popular than gen 1 is difficult because the more earlier we saw something the more nostalgic we feel and admire them again and again to give them popularity.

But if it’s about better designs, than must try to stop making human friendly humanoid type pokemon. They must be like beasts tough to befriend and tough to capture. If this is done again we will get better designs.

  1. Faithful 3D remake of Red & Blue.

  2. Classic turn based and capture mechanics.

  3. Retcon the pokédex of 150/151 to whatever the number is if you include all the new evolutions and regional variants. New Kanto evos arent locked behind post game.

  4. Add more new evolutions, pre-evolutions, forms, megas, and variants.

  5. Retcon regional variants of Kanto pokémon into “Seviian Forms” and have them obtainable on the Sevii Islands.

  6. Whatever pokémon is first in your party follows you.

  7. Rideable pokémon, as a bicycle alternative.

  8. Alternatively to storing pokémon in your PC you can keep them at your island reserve. As you add pokémon you can observe unique and interesting interactions. You can walk about the island interacting with your pokémon, or play a pokémon snap style game were you ride around taking pictures.

  9. Difficulty settings Easy, Normal, Hard, Very Hard.

  10. Day & Night cycle.

  11. New ghost and dragon Eeveelutions, an untangled form for Tangela, unmasked form for Cubone, unearthed form for Diglett & Dugtrio, spiral Shellder form, baby Kangaskhan form, pre-evo for Lapras, vulpix, growlithe, ponyta, a pre-evo for Tauros that can evolve into either a tauros or miltank. A pre-evo for Pinsir that can evolve into either Pinsir or Heracross. Second Mega Evolutions for Blastoise and Venusaur.

  12. Maybe repurpose the time capsule as a way of transforming Jigglypuff and Magneton into Scream Tail and Sandy Shocks.

Basically a nostalgia trip down memory lane with a bunch of new evos and stuff for the newer generation of players. Similar to LGPE but more inline with the traditional mainline game mechanics. All the popularity of Gen 1 but with enough modern flare to draw in new players.
