The Question of the Day is a way to facilitate community discussion to help members ponder the unanswered questions of the world that are somehow relating to the hobby. Questions are many times open ended and up to interpretation. Feel free to post your thoughts in as much or as little detail as you’d like.
Helpful Considerations may or may not help some people focus their answer, these are blurred to not bother those who have their own ideas.
Today’s Question: QotD: Which pokemon from gens 2-4 would have been flamed online if it came out during gen 5 as a bad design? (this was a suggested question)
Helpful Considerations: I dont think any hints are needed for this one.
These are all fairly cookie cutter, mostly justified examples though and there are 20-30 others like them.
Groudon however I think would fall victim to a particular strain of Gen 5 dislike. “It doesn’t look like a Pokemon, Digimon/Yugioh reference, too bad ass, it doesn’t belong in the Pokemon world, they’ve lost their direction etc.” Painful to type this but I think it would happen.
“Starters are becoming more and more anthropomorphic with each generation… They may have claws, but why are they standing on two legs. At least Swampert is decent.”
Charizard and Blastoise could also be considered anthropomorphic if standing on two legs would be the definition tbh.
Note that this is just satire on purpose for the topic. I honestly don’t have any issues with any of these designs. There are very few Pokémon designs I dislike tbh (although here are some of them).
Man, they really have run out of ideas, I mean what even is this? Are we really at the point where new Pokémon designs are just a rock with arms and two almost identical balls?
Gen 4 has some good contenders like ambipom, rhyperior ans lickilicky, and the flaming would be for a good reason. Some of the evolutions for previous gen pokemon could have been left undone, rhyperior especilly downgraded significally an iconic evolution line
