Most disappointing final evolution (in your opinion)?

For me, it’s Venusaur. Bulbasaur & Ivysaur are some of my favorites but I find Venusaur underwhelming. I don’t dislike it, the evolution line is concise when it comes to the flower, but for some reason it doesn’t do it for me.

Bulbasaur & Ivysaur are energetic and full of life but Venusaur just seems so lethargic and uninterested. Like the person you dread talking to at the DMV.

What’s your most disappointing final evolution? Why?

I’m really not a fan of most final evo’s of old Pokemon in Sinnoh. Magmortar is proabably the most disappointing one to me.

Most of the Mega evolution pokemon are quite distinct from their previous evolutions. Mega Venusaur was definitely shortchanged back in 2014.

Dang…I didn’t even considered mega evolutions. That one bums me out too but I guess it’s par for the course

I haven’t played any of the newer games, so I admit I don’t have much attachment to the new pokemon, but the third evolution in this line just seems outright lazy and uninspired. Differences from the middle evolution hardly exist.

When I played through Scarlet I was excited to pick fuecoco for my starter because crocodilian/alligator pokemon like totodile are so cute. I played through all of scarlet avoiding spoilers and was very excited to get another goated final evo like feraligatr. You can imagine Babushka’s disappointmemt.

Maybe a bipedal crocodile that strums their guitar with their teeth would have fit better with the other starter evolutions

Was kinda hoping theyd do something other than this

Aw, I like this one! I thought it was different two keep it on all fours instead of bipedal like feraligatr and krookodile

Bipedal would have been cool!

I’m into quadrupedal mons too. Just clean up the noise on his face. Rough sketch below.

Save the flames for attack animations and remove the block teeth for a sugimori mouth and BOOM you got yourself a star.

A lot of modern character designs are great, and then they add too much sauce. Byleth from Three Houses is another example of this. Also not a fan of the block tooth motif they went with for the gen 9 mons. Flattening mouth details is remiscent of child illustrations and inconsistent with building a 3D world imo.

Gen 9 designs that avoid these pitfalls succeed.

Unpopular opinion, but Dragonite.
We were going sweet with dratini and dragonair then like that, bam, diabetus

2. They gave up on a cool evolution, that people were waiting since 2010 at least, for a meme. Nice (it sucks).

Flygon is a good Pokemon but he doesn’t look like an arthropod, which he should. After the wonderful transition from Trapinch to Vibrava, both of which are impeccable designs, you’re looking forward to a giant bug. What you get is puff the magic plush dragon. He looks too soft, both in body and spirit. In the 2D front sprites he is saved a little by how the pixels obfuscate his pupils, so he looks a little more insectoid and a little less like an anime twerp cosplaying himself:

Now, obviously I think there are hundreds and hundreds of Pokemon designs that are much worse than Flygon. But whereas those were always doomed to being shit, Flygon should’ve been a top 10 Pokemon. The colors are perfect, the diamond wings are perfect, the typing, basis, region, lore and everything is great.
