PSA has always pushed the idea of grading sets (whether that was sincere or just to try and get people to grade their cards), and there are an awful lot of cards people want to grade that don’t make sense at 19 or even $15.
I’d be happy if they got to $10 or less at some stage with a max declared value of something like $69-99 (they would have to actually enforce it).
Like I said earlier in the thread: there are even a large amount of WOTC Unlimited Holos that don’t make much sense to grade at $15-19. Same goes for 1st Edition Base Set non-holos and Shadowless non-holos, EX series holos, etc.
Taking that into consideration, making $19 the long-term floor doesn’t make much sense. I think we will see PSA open a tier at something like $10-12 with a $99 value cap that will, as you said, be strictly enforced.
I filled out one of the surveys PSA sent to set registry users. There was a question along the lines of asking about obstacles to completing sets. One of the pre-formatted answers was about the cost of grading being too high to send in low value cards. It indicated to me that this is at least something on their radar
It’s interesting to me that the sports card world is reacting to this price change like the sky is falling, as far as I can tell. I guess $30 cards are their bread and butter? No shade or anything, I was just pleasantly surprised at the $19/$499 announcement.
Anyone know when these pricing changes go live? Got a smaller order I’d like to submit.
This is correct - the new prices are not yet live. They also removed the “Economy” option for members and non-members. So if you’re a non-member, the cheapest price right now is Regular at $100.
I’m sure that they’ll update the prices within the next few weeks.
I’m pretty happy with the changes as value and regular were my most used tiers. No DV increase on bulk is kind of a bummer, though. I’d still really like some of the higher tiers to come down as there starts to be a huge disparity with the other grading companies on those, but I don’t know that they have much incentive to drop them at this point.
Not only is it a bummer, but PSA blatantly lied. In their IG post on Dec. 19, they said it would be a $499 value cap for $19 bulk. Now it’s $199? If I would have known this, I would have sent more cards for the $15 special.
Hopefully this is just a mistake that they will fix. If not, then this isn’t exactly a great way to promote trust with your customers.
Also curious if the actual turnaround time will be dramatically faster than the listed estimates, as it was with the $15 special – doubt it, but that would be nice
