From what I’ve heard directly from their own employees, they are not close to full capacity and lots of their staff are working from home, which has obvious limitations.
PSA is referring to what they consider the value of the card after grading to be in all cases where they refer to a value limit on a given service.
They are in no way bound to any certain pricing method and absolutely could upcharge for cards on the line, though this isn’t super likely in my experience unless the card is receiving a lot of attention. If you submit a card that last sold for $99 in a 10, you get a 10, and one day before your order completed it auctioned on PWCC for $500, you are almost certainly going to get upcharged if the employees who do upcharging saw the sale.
It is a little confusing with them running a special, the limitations they are still at, and backlog they currently have. My guess with the special running through the end of June, they suspect they will be able to have more people in the office by then to justify the sale. We’ll see.
This is absolutely what is happening. I remember when the nationwide shutdown was starting like a month ago(maybe longer?) and PSA was over here like “hey guys we’re still open!!” only to be shutdown like a few days later
My friend has several modern Magic cards he would like graded with PSA. It looks like on the submission form I can add them to my order. Do you think PSA would throw a fit if I put a few Magic cards on the end of my quarterly special submission?
If I remember the exact advert correctly there isn’t a confirmed turnaround time. It’s psa so 70 days is like 8 months. It wouldn’t surprise me if psa is just playing a big brain move getting like a years of Pokémon subs in a short while so they can set them off on the side and not have to worry about a bunch of random bulk orders for like 6 months. Once they have the sales they can take as long as the like. They make money with your cards chilling in their warehouses rather than chilling in your binders.
The real special here is all of these cards will be marked with 5XXX serials. They’ll all be graded incredibly harshly. Only 1 in 10,000 with be given a PSA 10 regardless of strength. Lottery system only.
It will get kicked. Just like if you put a coin on a regular order. Sure, it will pull up in the system. But your order will then get kicked during initial reception and go to the problem desk. Then the problem desk has to get your confirmation to re-classify the contents. Then you’re going to pay extra return shipping. And if your order without them isn’t enough for the special, the whole thing will get reclassified to the next cheapest option for the order size, which could be $20/card.
Really bad idea to send that in with obvious violation of the special terms. Going to cost you time and money.
Not that it pertains to the special but it goes to show PSA is processing orders. I sent a package to them on Friday and it got to them yesterday, and they’ve already registered it and attached it to my account. Maybe I just got lucky or it was the “Express” service I bought but I was impressed after being told that it would take 3/4 weeks to get the order into their system
