Firstly apologies if I shouldn’t have created a new thread - I didn’t wanna clog up the mega thread with this.
I recently purchased a PSA 10 card and has arrived with the following damage shown below.
Now, the card moves around slightly in the case but I can’t see it have causing this.
I’m shocked this got a 10 for starters with clear defects
However, my question is the seller has said this was an oversight and would refund me if I didn’t want to keep it. It’s not his fault but also didn’t mention.
I’m wondering would this put you off buying in the future or the fact it’s encased in the 10 slab is Good enough?
The card cert number begins with 43xxxxxxx so is fairly new.
The card is lost link remover prize with a population of mid-20’s so I won’t be able to pick one up again very easily.
Lots of 9’s are much cleaner than that, but many 10’s are just as bad. I wouldnt worry about it, I dont think people will be smart enough to look past the grade stamped on the case for at least a decade
You know a PSA 10 card is not perfect right? That whitening is normal. If you want the closest to perfection get a BGS 10 blacklabel. Also this should go in the PSA thread as you stated.
This is a normal 10, if you want a perfect card dont look for psa 10s, look for cgc perfect 10 or bgs black label cards.
And the fabled “buy the card, not the grade”
You can’t get better than a 10 but PSA 10 grade is very wide in range compared to BGS for example. So in the PSA 10 range falls many BGS 9.5’s and maybe also some PSA 9’s. Some people divide the 10 grade into strong or weak and that also drives the price, but in the end it’s a PSA 10. As I said before that is a normal 10 honestly
Just +1 to what everyone else said already: it’s very normal minor tiny damage, I have seen waay worse 10s. A PSA 10 is not required to be a perfect card.
This is why the huge premium on PSA 10s is laughable. “Buy the card not the grade” is a saying for a reason. You’ll get much more enjoyment of the hobby, won’t be worrying over things like this, and will save a lot of money in most instances.
Alot of PSA 10s have minor flaws, for some its centering and for others its small nicks/whitening. If you want perfection, I suggest CGC Pristine 10s and BGS Pristine 10s.
@legendarymewchu, I echo everything these guys have said. You do you - if you like the card, keep it. Don’t stress about it. I had a very similar experience to this a few years ago. I bought one of the 12 English 1st Ed. Neo Discovery Yanmas in PSA 10 and it has a very small defect on the holo if the light catches it. Similar to your experience - the seller didn’t mention it on the listing, I only noticed it when I received the card and then agonised over whether to keep it or return it. I decided to keep it and I’m happy I did. Go with your gut and as these guys have said, perfection isn’t a prerequisite of PSA 10 anyway. Imperfection is beauty - there isn’t another card identical to yours out there
