I still like unlimited and it’s point was always to be the non investable option. But I think some people did forget that during the last few years and started to invest in them. I’m sure that is a sore subject for some
And when they did away with the 1st Ed stamp I think the collectability mainly came from coincidence with Pokemon being at a low point and not heavily printed. If legendary collection and onwards had 1st Ed I’m sure there would be the same discrepancy.
The lack of popularity really helped in the investability for late WOTC set cards
I hesitate to mention this as it may draw too much attention, but why are VS cards so cheap? Like they have cool art, were only printed in Japan, have the e-reader card shape so many vintage collectors like, and have fairly low pops. Just not enough people know about them?
One of those things. I remember when I was looking for an electric/grass box years ago, the fire/water was almost the price of a Neo Destiny box! A lot of people talked about them, everyone loved the cards. And they still do! VS has got to be one of the most unanimously appreciated sets. Frankly I was shocked when I looked up the box prices 4 ish years ago, to see how little they had appreciated.
Not to say that they aren’t furiously expensive, they most certainly are, but the trajectory seemed higher.
It’s pretty wild. I feel like once you find them they become really desirable. Such cool cards. The Karen’s Umbreon is obviously well known and an incredible card. But even like Lance’s Charizard, Gyarados, Aerodactyl, and Dragonite are all so good with this unique art style from Kusube. So cool. Some of the non holos like Karen’s Flareon or Rapidash. So many good cards.
That’s a good comparison! I share your love for the vending series. I have had the complete vending set for about a decade although I’m working on finishing up the Masaki’s as I guess technically that would make a complete set. But I love the raw art style on those cards. I’m always a fan of cards that look like they were hand drawn by an artist. I also just love the concept of peeling cards off Vending sheets. So cool.
A few years ago, there were several full graded sets sold on PWCC. VS listing after VS listing every weekend. They almost all flew under the radar. Super cheap.
The stonkability is lower on VS, so maybe that’s why people ignore it. But I think it’s an incredible set.
It’s just that they are not English. I’d be all over them if they were. I think there’s just a portion of people who will just want to collect the language they read/speak and there isn’t much more to it
