Only reason i even figured it existed was cause i was collecting cards for Karen
I like to zig when others zag. The upside of noise and hype in modern means less are focusing on vintage. I think pricing is generally beneficial for me right now.
I’m buying Fossil 1st edition EN, Base Set JP, Base Set Shadowless EN, plus random one off cards.
Funny you mention that, I recently bought a Master Vs set on Goldin a couple months ago for what felt like dirt cheap
Vintage sealed has been fairly steady despite the contents of said sealed dropping almost universally. It’s possible all the box ripping of the past 3 years really did have an effect on this stuff.
Some sets are way down from highs like neo genesis but imo that was just as fomo driven as Charizard so it makes sense.
Also Team Rocket, even 1st ed has dropped a ton. I love the set, has some amazing art, was it printed heavily?
Its a bit easier to grade than base/jungle/fossil.
I believe it did get a larger run than the rest
We don’t know exact print runs but a good rule of thumb is print runs gradually decrease for sets as you go from base set to e series/early to mid ex era where it hits the bottom for least printed sets. Pretty much all of the 1st gen sets are some of the most printed sets ever and when you take in to account a “good pull” from those was just a 1 in 3 holo as compared to todays sets where a “good pull” is generally 1 every booster box or so, theres a looot of holos from those early sets.
Thanks for all the information. I been tracking Base(unlimited)-Neo Discovery(1st ed/Unl Jungle-Discovery) and see TR and Genesis continue to drop/not recovering and wonder why? Both sets are amazing, so a bit confused lol.
I see a lot of rocket boxes being opened
Tracking the boxes or the singles?
Just singles, boxes are way out of my league.
There were hundreds if not thousands of PSA 10 VS cards on PWCC every week earlier this year. They were all sequential certs so somebody obviously graded all of them. Whoever you are, thank you because I got the vast majority of my PSA 10 VS cards for 30 or 40 bucks
It’s such an amazing set. It’s one of the sets in my collection I find myself frequently just pulling out and looking through.
Has it only been that long? Time flies!
Maybe you’re talking about a different batch! The ones I bought were in the JAN/FEB/MARCH timeframe I think.
Regardless of long term growth potential, Old back japanese set holos are some of the nicest looking cards you can buy.
The Holo is always very bright and the card frames are very well designed imo.
Maybe it’s the boomer in me, but flipping through a vintage binder is so much more in enjoyable than most “modern” binders. There are some exceptions. The price and accessibility of it lately is great for my 1st edition binder sets!
I think going forward just having the yellow borders are going to make vintage increasingly distinctive. I actually really like the modern/grey borders as well, but vintage has that cozy/warm feeling more than ever to me as well and I always enjoy looking through my binder sets as a result more than ever. Prices have definitely come down a lot, but I have to admit I’m still having a bit of a tricky time finding certain 1st Ed Base and Neo cards for good prices at times. All things considered though it’s been a great year to finish off or start vintage binder sets while a lot of people have focused on modern or have scaled back on purchasing collectibles and other luxury items.
Unlimited base is a great and affordable way to re live your childhood.
The market peak was around November 2020. Some of the cards have fallen so badly, I wonder statistically where we are at approximately now price wise? If anyone can estimate for example July / August 2020? All I know is we will never see 2019 prices again. Some examples: December 2019 Zapdos Base PSA 10 sells around $100.00 and Charizard base PSA 10 $1,650 in November 2019.
