English Promo Release gets awesome alternate artwork

Once again milhouse, I couldn’t agree less…
The stamp is awesome, but the art is nothing special compared to the origin(al)
and why a third prerelease gyarados? Sure he’s cool, but was he the pinacle of the origins set?
@aj1 - I am ok with the Staff one because it’s non-intrusive, the big set name stamps just bug me to no end.
I think the artwork is an awesome alternative because it’s a continuation of the ‘story’ told in the original(Shining) artwork and this re-done artwork in Bandit Ring.
I’d try and discuss why they chose Gyarados again for a pre-release card, but the only thing I have is that Gyarados is popular. But the inner workings of the minds of whoever chooses which cards make it to sets/pre-releases/promo cards is a whole mess I don’t want to delve into. They are insane.
So next year we’ll see a fisherman’s gyarados gymstyle, when they do a revisit of the gym sets?! Amiami couldn’t handle my order then 
sure i love that they are doing a tribute to the shining gyarados, yet it isn’t shiny. Nonetheless the bandit ring card is one of the best artworks ever in my opinion.
Gyarados popularity and the new gyarados store makes it a great choice, but where are the shiny gyarados cards? We’ve had a regular one in a set before. 
I feel we need more regular pokemon as shinies too. Sure primal wear sunglasses full arts are fun, but how about the shiny caterpie ancient trait everybody is talking about!?
on the stamp issue: it does make it more of a prerelease card, an advertisement for the set. I loved it when they started doing that. First prerelease gyarados was same art only a little stamp, would you have wanted to see something similar here?
Well I should preface this whole thing, because I am not a huge Pre-release card person or pre-release person in general. So I am not actually mad or majorly irritated.
I think it’s cool that they aren’t just slapping a ‘Prerelease’ stamp on the same artwork and are at least making the card different. The only thing that bugs me at all is the ‘Ancient Origins’ stamp. I’d MUCH prefer a Set Symbol Stamp in place of the name of the set. I am just being picky.
I’d love to see a set in the future with a return of Shining cards. Actually named Shining —, actually what I would prefer is for Secret Rare cards to return to being Shiny versions of Pokemon. Then we might get a Shiny Caterpie card. (Weedle>Caterpie, though)

Golden pokemon is going to be the new thing? Hope not. That will mean cgi crappy golden like the poster…
But as always, im diverting. Great new prerelease card. Set logo would be cool. Other gyarados card is way better.
I like the Bandit Ring Gyarados more as well, just the alternate pre-release artwork is also awesome.
I really hope that Pokemon don’t suddenly become Golden…

Unpopular opinion: I think the Prerelease/Promo artwork is miles better than the Bandit Ring one. Not to say the Bandit Ring one is bad at all, I love it…but the promo just seems more sinister, which is a direction I would like to see more cards go in. Pokemon shouldn’t all be friendly.

Apparently no versions of this card will be available without obtrusive stamps.
Maybe there was a mistake on the left side but they didn’t want to pay for it to be redone. So they just covered it with a stamp.

Ew, the promo version is disgusting, and especially compared to the original. IMO. :x
Finally a Gyarados with discipline. Looks cooler with its mouth closed in my opinion. I really like this artwork.
+1 this is why I only really collect Japanese now. The Japanese cards IMO have always looked a bit better overall (I love the original holos…who doesnt?) but now they look significantly better as I think the English cards have slipped in quality ever since Wizards lost their license.
