I have gotten back into collecting cards pretty recently and I purchased a pre-constructed theme deck case on eBay, 2 of each base set theme deck included in it (Zap, Overgrowth, Blackout & Brushfire). I am 99.99% sure I ended up getting burned on this and I am trying to dispute this purchase but claims the seller is making about the product are unverifiable as far as I have searched online. The decks have paper damage counters, which I have not seen in any base set theme deck. The seller came back and stated this was due to the case being a Belgium print, on the bottom of the case there was one country code and said made in the USA. I was unable to find any base set theme decks with paper damage counters anywhere online and the only pre-constructed theme decks I could find that say made in Belgium are non-english and it is clearly indicated on the bottom that is was made in Belgium. The texture on the cards didn’t feel right as well and even though the Hitmonchan (I only opened one Blackout theme deck) did not have the seal in the front the ENTIRE face of the card feels like a piece of tape, corner to corner, not just a normal glue strip. Everything about this seems really off to me but I just can’t find enough info online that can absolutely refute the seller’s claims. Does this case seem suspicious to anyone else?
I’m not necessarily refuting the fact that the case was never opened or tampered with outside of the factory, I’m mainly trying to figure out if anyone has seen a case printed in Belgium but not indicated on the bottom, nothing I’ve found online can corroborate that.
Later prints of the base set theme decks had paper counters. Nothing odd about that. Sounds to me like you may have gotten 1999-2000 theme decks? The 1999-2000 print is more pale in color.
None of those are a justifiable reason to open a return.
You purchase a sealed English case of theme decks, and got just that. Untampered with and 100% legit. You want to return it because it’s a Belgium release but still manufactured in the US? And because of a slight color difference, which is fairly common? Sounds like to me you have buyers remorse and are LOOKING for a way out of the purchase.
This seller is a known a-hole, shill bidder, and scammer. He is listed on our E4 blacklist of sellers to avoid completely. That being said, I would be surprised if he started selling fake merchandise.
If you have doubts about the item’s authenticity, the seller has a return policy you can utilize. Not sure how it would go if you opened the decks but with eBay’s buyer protection you’ll likely win the case anyways. You certainly wouldn’t be damaging someone with any standing in the community.
Don’t want to create a separate thread, but whats wrong with that seller? He has 100% fed. I don’t think I bought anything from him as I rarely buy from outside the US. Just want to get some insight on this seller.
He’s the guy with the illegal horde of EX Unseen Forces gold star dogs. Not to mention extensive shill bidding, fraudulent listing, and scamming.
I personally was a victim of one of his scams, he bought a PSA 9 card from me, claimed “damage” on the card and that it wasn’t a PSA 9, and wanted a partial refund. I refused, told him to take his issues up with PSA, he opened a paypal case (which I won) but he then cracked the card, resubmitted it, and it regraded a 10.
If you avoid anyone in this hobby, avoid this guy.
Not at all trying to create a rift in the community since I’m new to it and will give back all the good vibes that collecting gives me. That certainly is not me on another account, I wish I had that knowledge and that’s why I’m here, to learn. No issue with mods checking the IP address to verify and corroborate that, I did nothing but ask an honest question and everyone on here has been helpful so far, thanks guys!
This thread has me questioning if I should continue to sell on ebay… like all of the contents are there including the cards… what possible scam could he taking place here as I cant see any legitimate reason to dispute the purchase??
