I missed the fire type thread, but I wanted to say that this thread series is a great idea!
While others have shared some of my other considerations (no surprise there ), I’d also thought of Yanmega prime, as it was fun to play back during HGSS in addition to well representing bug’s incorporation into the grass type for the tcg.
Always loved this Ledyba! Positive vibes all over the place. I’ll never forget walking into a local card shop in the early 2000s and seeing the Southern Islands “Fields of Flowers” set, featuring a Pokemon I had never seen before. It opened up all sorts of new possibilities and I think it may have been my first ever exposure to Johto, my favorite generation of all time.
This Fukuda art came to mind. I love the ones he does (there are quite a few examples) where the horizon is curved. Kinda like a fish-eye lens effect. Gives me Interstellar (2014) vibes. Also having no attacks but two Poke-power/bodies is cool and interesting
It’s a beautiful artwork, and gives me a mix of both serenity and nostalgia every time I look at it. The soft colors also work really well, and even though it’s one of her very first Pokémon TCG artwork, I still think it’s one of Kagemaru Himeno’s best ones.
Zubat has a lot of great artworks, but the one from Team Rocket has always been my favorite. Love the eary vibes with the thin crescent moon and tree branches straight out of horror movies.
In the Sceptile artwork, Kouki Saitou did an amazing job capturing both movement and the brief moment before the tree tops would fall on the ground, as if a photo was taken at the perfect moment. Also like the pose of Sceptile in it, partly its side and partly its back facing towards us, emphasizing that it just did that cut we’re seeing in the artwork.
As someone who collects FA Supporter cards and FA Pokémon with people in the artwork, this Vileplume with Erika captures what I like about collecting those second types of cards. It depictures a relatable scene, with both Pokémon and trainer sleeping in the sunlight, curled up together.
Leafeon has a lot of great artworks (I also really like the Twilight Masquerade and SVP promo artworks for example), but this Leafeon VSTAR alt art would be my favorite of this Eeveelution. The way it’s completely in its element inside this indoor garden, with the many details of the plants and glass pots in the background, and even its tail hanging in the water of one of such pots makes it a beautiful artwork.
