Following up on my Autograph collection, here is my error card collection. Some of them are common and some of them are very rare.
I’d certainly appreciate feedback on some of the borderline ones.
It’s a fine line between error and damage. Let me know if some of these cross that line
Monster Ball Voltorb
Corrected HP Vulpix
Red Cheeks E3 Pikachu, sealed
Length-Length Bulbasaur
Prerelease Clefable, stamped but missing foil
Edition d Butterfree
Jungle Electrode with Base art (all 1st Ed have this error)
That pikachu is a hard flex, and its so innocuous. I have the inferior yellow cheek e3 stamp, which was included in the magazines. For those who don’t know, red cheeks e3 stamp was given out only in person at the actual e3 conference. The price difference is like 2 orders of magnitude these days.
I’m always amazed that still I have something to learn about base set, fossil, and jungle. They rushed so hard to get these out. Never knew about monster ball voltorb, and now I want one. I also didn’t know there was a corrected vulpix. And I also didn’t know about length - length bulbasaur. I didn’t even know there was a prerelease for jungle until I got back into cards again as an adult. I saw plenty of fossil aerodactyls, but none of the clefable back in the pokemania days of yore.
This is a fun page in particular. I didn’t know that it was 1st ed. jungle electrode that was the error. Are any of them in the Markless Aurelius unlimited version this way or is it strictly 1st edition? I knew about this one, but not the details of when it was fixed and the relative rarity of the error vs. corrected.
thanks for sharing. Collections like yours help people learn more and we are all more enriched for it!
I don’t think there was a Jungle Prerelease per se. They just made a limited number of the Clefable PR cards to give out at selected TRU leagues (and later at big events)
There were a lot of errors like that in Base Set. Check Bulbapedia’s listing for Base Set. I’m sure they’ll have a list. The Vulpix fix was from the so called “4th edition”, which was actually about the 8th or 10th print run made for the UK market. You’ll notice different copyright dates on it
and casually posts poketour 1999 pika as well. That one in particular I crave, price wise its just within my grasp. Plus I have a thing for AU exclusives. “4th print” is a sloppy term that I disavow. Refined ladies and gentlemen call it the 2000 copyright, or whatever abbreviation of that you so choose as that is what people mean when they say “4th print” anyhow. Thanks for the electrode illumination too. Such a funny mistake! And the clefable info was appreciated, a hasty and informal distribution sounds about right for them.
Sweet collection, I love the Bro Fistlett and Everstone Wartortle.
Random question, do you reckon No Damage Ninetales was a pre-production error or mid-production error?
And by that is there any information or indication out there if the printing plants were just jammed or faulty that day or missing ink and didn’t press the damage number into the card, or was it simply an oversight at the graphical input phase before printing started?
No Jungle stamp Flareon and Nidoqueen (all final print run holos have this error)
Blackstar Promo 1 Pikachu with 1st Ed stamp (found in Jungle 1st Ed packs)
No HP Dark Persian (not released)
JP Ancient Mew copyright “Nintendo”
Non Holo Dark Dragonite #5 (should be Holo)
No retreat cost Marill (should have retreat of “*”)
Stage 2 Combusken
Poke-Body Empoleon Lv.X (should be a power. Fixed in 2nd printing)
Colorless Dialga (all reverse foil have this error)
Grey Zekrom (background is supposed to be black)
Rocket’s Minefield Gym no damage (and rarer fixed with 2 damage)
Prerelease Raichu error (no, not THAT one, unfortunately. Look at the messed up stamps)
Mothim Prerelease missing some foil (not that great)
4 crimped cards
