Pokemon you're surprised aren't more popular than they actually are

Indeed, it has some unique properties. Completely wasted on Sableye, would be cool if it got more distribution and some new moves to facilitate it. Regigigas, I’m looking at you.

Not a lot of stuff you could do with it right now, hypothetically. Cancel Trick rooms, guarantee switch advantage in self-switching situations (teleport, baton pass, u-turn etc), very specific rapid spinning scenarios and next turn pre-Sun and Moon Destiny Bonds (this one especially in combination with Recover would make for some very nasty stalling.) The potential is there.

This is such a sad image!

Might be biased here, but I’ve never really understood why Jirachi lives in such a shadow of Mew & Celebi.
Don’t get me wrong, I love all 3 and think they are all some of the best the series has to offer, but Jirachi had the best movie about it/most prominent role in the anime, excellent typing and moveset, and awesome artwork cards.
That’s not to say celebi and Mew don’t have that, I just think it should get the same attention as those two do.
(But I guess I can’t complain because my Jirachi master set is much more affordable than a Mew or Celebi one would be lol)

I think it just comes down to the fact that Mew and Celebi were in Gens 1 and 2, respectively, and Gens 1 and 2 are the two most popular generations by far.

I personally love Jirachi, though.

I mean, just look at this art!

I think it probably has something to do with the design. The head gear, the elaborate ornamentation, the steel type. It’s decidedly less “cute” (as in the trope/motif) than Mew the baby/kitten hybrid and Celebi the fairy princess. Jirachi is more…alien?

If I have a favorite among them it would be Jirachi. Great Pokemon, always been a fan.

I definitely think Sandslash is underrated. It was one of my favourite Gen 1 pokemon. Although I think the Aloalan form has gotten more people to like it.

Definitely my boy aggron. Sick design and cool evolution line but he definitely doesnt get love. I blame it on the lack of Gen 3 attention :frowning:

Gen 3 had so many fantastic designs.

I will say that if Aggron were pure Steel or Steel/Ground rather than Steel/Rock, I feel like it would be more popular. That Rock typing hurts it so much.

Competetitively youre absolutely right, his rock typing was such a crutch! But hello, MEGA AGGRON? Plus FILTER? S TIER DESIGN???

Castform comes to mind for Gen 3.

As a kid I thought it was the coolest thing that there was a Pokémon that changed its form according to the weather. Always felt super under appreciated.

My top picks would be Scizor and Absol. I’m not saying they are not popular at all, but expected them to get more traction. I mean just look at some of these artworks…

I recently also (finally) played the new Pokémon game, and I thought Kingambit was so badass during the top champion fight. Surprised I had never heard of this Pokémon anywhere before playing the game.

Finally, I also feel that Pokémon characters from the anime (in card artworks) receive less love than I thought. Recently picked one of these up, nostalgia got the better of me. Did we forget the OG crew already?:face_holding_back_tears:

@palamec1a that artwork Scizor artwork is amazing. Also agree completely on Kingambit I didn’t know it existed until I looked it up.

Yes it really is. Ever since posting this I have been thinking I really need to get a nice copy for myself haha.

Also has a cool samurai-vendetta kind of ability (Supreme Overlord) in the game; When a Pokémon with Supreme Overlord enters battle, it receives a 10% additive increase to the [power] for each ally Pokémon that is [fainted].

Thought the ability was a perfect match for the character.

Drampa is literally a luck dragon. Very surprised that 90s kids don’t gravitate towards it. Falkor!!!

Drampa was SO GOOFY in the anime. If they didn’t make it so goofy looking and goofy acting, I think it could have more popularity.
