What Gen 1 Pokémon fell of completely?

Gen 1 was obviously something special, because this was the start. There were only 151 Pokémon, and they all were beloved (yes, even Jynx ; ) ).

But some Pokémon fell into obscurity.

I give you Kabutops. A Pokémon that was widely considered to be the best fossil. Aerodactyl was cool to, and Omastar had it´s share of fans, but you wanted Kabutops (if you were cool anyway).

It received no less than 3 holo´s (Fossil/Neo Discovery/E-series), a Shining and a Crystal. Few other Pokémon can boast that. But nowadays if you ask someone about Kabutops, you´ll probably get a; yeah, it´s ok.

In the games I’d say all but:

Snorlax, zard, venusaur, mew, gengar, alakazam, Tauros, chansey, machamp, zapdos and Dragonite

Are completly powercrept and useless by now

30th anniversary of sucking. Battered, bruised, nerfed, hololess. From Genwun and yet people legitimately forget you exist. Gym leader signatures, prolific game appearances and peak anime be damned. The stats and looks of fully evolved Pokemon with the utility of a feisty Magikarp.

This is a very good one too. Alakazam was the real deal, it even got a Gold Star over Gengar. At least it was treated well in 151.

Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, bathing in sweat with the sound of ´psychic´ in my head, KO´ing my Pokémon one by one with a critical hit.

Yeah and in the games turns out if you max one stat and disregard the rest you can remain surprisingly relevant 30 years later

Scyther. Evolves into Scizor/Kleavor with the same stats but isn’t treated like an equal. Just common cards for years now.

I don’t think Seaking was ever on to be able to fall off.

Primeape got an evolution that is pretty good no? Though even Annihilape has no AR or SAR yet. Tangela just got one with Erika’s Tangela + it got a cosmos holo. Also it did get an AR in 151. Tangrowth still has nothing, but it’s not Gen 1 and it sucks compared to the beta Tangrowth/Tangela evolution so I suppose not relevant to this thread.

Yeah most really. Some of the obvious ones include

Tangela got a much better one.

This one hurts. I always like Scyther more than scizor

Definitely. I haven´t played competitive since Sun & Moon, but back then an Alakazam with a Focus Sash was still a thing.

Yeah, the problem here is that it got an evolution. Not many Pokémon can stay cool after getting one. This is my main gripe with Gen 4, as most of the Pokémon they did evolutions for were very good designs.

if it counts, Dodrio. Granted, its always been unpopular…

Machamp comes to mind

I would say most Pokemon that received an evolution past Gen 1 tend to be put in that evolutions shadow. These two come to mind

Id argue kingdra kept these 2 alive

Another vote for Rhydon.

While I kinda agree with other choices like Tangela, Jynx/Magmar/Electabuzz, Lickitung.. since they felt definitely more special back in the day, I think Rhydon was once such a classic Pokemon with an interesting monstrous design, a cool guy indeed.

I feel it doesn’t resonate with fans anymore, and already literally no kid wanted to use it back in the days of Gba/DS games: too slow, died to every water or grass attack, and was always relegated to the fodder basket with its rock-ground friends.
The reputation of being a brainless Pokemon that mindlessly charged at enemies in the anime didn’t help either.

It’s a Brock’s ace too in a certain sense, but still outclassed by other rock types. The new evolution did more harm than good, since it’s now in a weird spot as a middle evolution & Rhyperior stole the show without actually being good. On top of that, it hasn’t gotten a good card in decades.

I am gonna make a big take in this. Jynx.

Whatever it is jynx is heavily used in gen 1 for it’s early trade and excellent typing. Also in most of the battles jynx is probably in team for the type coverage.

But smh slowly it vanished…… atleast there counterparts got gen 4 upgrades

The Rhyhorn line should all be split up. I love Rhyhorn but then it stands up into Rhydon.

Rhydon with its first created Pokemon lore and it being basically the statue all over Kanto is kinda cool by itself.

Rhyperior is an abomination that shouldn’t exist, but since it does, it’s better if it’s connected to neither current pre-evolution lol.
