Pokémon x Van Gogh Museum collaboration

Be careful of what you wish for, it might just come true.

Apparently there is an event for influencers tonight at the museum, will see most if not all the stuff posted soon

It’d be nice to have promo cards but these days it attracts all the wrong kind of people.

What they could do instead would be like (though it would’ve had to have been a lot of effort and collaboration) a tour of some of the artworks with some artists having done some tributes featuring Pokemon and then those postcards could be found later in the store or something.

Educational and a real collaboration.

On a separate note, the Taipei Pokemon Centre is opening soon isn’t it? But no card promo there. Wasn’t any for the Singapore Pokemon Centre either. It’s kind of sad (even though not even all JP Pokemon Centres got a card release simultaneously) because it would be nice to have some sort of tribute.

Perhaps they could do a perennial card representing the city and the mascot - in the case of Taipei, it’s Dragonite. That should reduce the scalping etc because they will keep reprinting it once it goes out of stock. Then only when they update the mascot etc then they’ll replace the card. Not sure why this hasn’t even been discussed as an option.

Taipei already has the Battle for Victini sealed game tournaments coming up leading to the opening in December, I suppose TPC decided that is enough to promote the Traditional Chinese customer base. The fact that the Raging Surf themed SR and SAR Victini ex promos are still Traditional Chinese exclusive, when it used to be Japan that held sealed game tournaments for such cards (AR Miraidon/Koraidon, HR Lucario VSTAR, HR Charizard VMAX, etc) tells me that TPC is becoming more selective on where they feel the need for promos to boost interest in the game. Spamming promo cards everywhere, in every language and for every event is no longer a guarantee we were previously spoiled with.

As for the Van Gogh collaboration, promos are 50/50. It already seems attendance will be very high even without them

Fair enough, but that’s still more of a set promotion than a location landmark.

Because I know in Japan, some PCs have changed their mascots after a time. So it’d be nice to commemorate the mascot in some way (I guess other merch is already produced though) before it changes - and the opening is the most appropriate time for a card rather than like 7 months down or whatever.

You think im joking but I would totally take postcards and bedsheets. This is not the negative you think it is.

I just received a follow-up mail about my visit tomorrow - no information in it about this collaboration. Though looking up directions did notify me of some very convenient maintenance work going on at the main entrance of the museum from September 18th to today.

What is the significance of 50?

I believe it is in reference to the museums duration it’s been open (or at least on a quick glance on google)

Apologies if this is already viewable on the Twitter/X link shared above but I’m on mobile so can’t check. But here is the promo from the official page.

Naoyo Kimura, yay! I like the card. Question now is how will it be distributed and for how long.

According to the Van Gogh Museum there is going to be an in person art hunt to obtain a promo card(s?)

Interesting! It also looks like there are more artworks that have been created. I wonder if they will be cards as well.

That’s lovely and hope there’s a hero who can help me get one. I’ll pay for some beers.
