Pokemon Sword & Shield on Switch 2019

For the first time I might be starting with a water Pokemon in the new game! I usually use fire no matter what. Who’s excited for Sword/Shield? I think it looks beautiful.

Anyone notice the emphasis on wild battles? I was slightly concerned it would end up being similar to Let’s Go but the teaser was definitely a relief. Glad the characters are not chibi like they were in LG.

I may just need to buy a switch

It is me, or the Pokemon Sword is Jon’s Snow sword?

Nt sure yet how I feel about the names / themes… sword and shied seems a bit boring… Generation 9: Pokemon Finger and Pokemon Toe?

UK is a great setting. Should be fun. I hated Grookey until I said its name a few times and now that is the one I’ll be taking

When I first heard Grookey used during the direct, I couldn’t help laughing. It’s definitely weird to say. I like his artwork though. He looks suspiciously friendly. Maybe too friendly. Almost like he could have some skeletons in his closet…and Sobble knows it…

Makes sense to capture the UK theme and culture. Hasn’t Pokemon struggled to catch on as much as US and Asia? Let’s see what happens.

It’s like Pokemon company is exploring a whole new region itself. Hopefully with the risk comes the reward.

We got the region, starters, and version names. Not a lot of info but I suppose knowing something is better than knowing nothing.

It looks like the battle mechanic will keep the traditional turn based style instead of the rumored Pokken Tournament style.

My first feelings (and assumptions):

  • RIP Pokemon on Gameboy (real handheld)
  • Another Fire/Fighting starter (sorry, it just looks like another one)
  • I just feel another Eevee coming
  • 20+ Legendary and Mythical Pokemon that are all uninspired.

I’m a sucker for game box art and the Pokémon logo is the central eyecatcher for any (foreign) Pokémon game.
So without further ado here are some of the beautiful Asian scripts infused in our 2 brand new logos:

Simply stunning. I really like the Pokémon League logo incorporated in the core of the Korean ㅁ (mieum).

Seems to me that they are phasing the 3DS out. It’s been around forever and now with the switch it acts as a handheld and tv console. 2 birds with one stone.

I think the trailer gave some hints as to the final evos types with Scorbunny running on the steel gear (Fire/Steel), Sobble disappearing (Water/Ghost), and Grookey banging the rock (Grass/Rock)

There hasn’t been a Pokémon game released on a Game Boy since 2005. What does it matter if the handhold console drops the Game Boy name and becomes a DS, 3DS and Switch? It’s still a handheld and you and have the option to play it on a TV without something like a Super Game Boy or Game Cube Game Boy Player.

Definitely the case. Why would you ever want to buy both? No one is going to sink money into a separate handheld when the Switch is a hybrid.

I wonder if it’ll give the platform the most longevity thus far.
