I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Pelican and/or SKBi cases with some rechargable silca packets to control moisture.
I am looking into something to store my Pikachu collection using topploaders. I do have a couple PSA ones as well. The collection ranges to about 300 ish cards.
I measure a card to be roughly 4/5.33’’ H (Topploader/PSA) 3.25’’ W and about 13-15 per inch. There is ones like this one but the height would go into the top foam. If that top foam isn’t a concern, this seems to fit 4 rows of cards with each row being 10’’ or 130-150 cards a row.
I saw a recommendation for the Harbor Freight Apache case (seemingly an exact copy of the Pelican) and I picked one up. I’m very pleased with it and will be using it to store both PSA and toploader cards. I put the PSA cases in horizontally and there looks like there’s room for 60-70 PSA cases plus just as many toploaders as well if you plan it out right. They also have larger/smaller ones but this one was on sale I think.
I’ve used the SKBi for my sport card collection for a few years now. Everything has worked well for me. I really like how protected the cards are, and how easy it is to transport a good amount of cards.
Can I ask what the internal height was? I’m looking at a couple of cases, one with height of 159mm and the other 194mm. A Pokemon PSA case is roughly 139mm, but I don’t know how much foam you’re supposed to leave/if 194 might be overkill.
@caughtatpoint, I bought a Nanuk 930 whose internal height is 6.9 inches (175mm) and it turned out to be not high enough for my PSA slabs due to the top & bottom foam also taking some space. I’d recommend the 194 mm option.
@shoe, very well organized case! Do you think you could share the exact model you’re using?
Does anyone store any booster boxes in pelican cases too? I saw someone had 6 wotc boxes in one and was thinking about same thing. Or a box/slab combo case.
Unsure on it yet though.
@shoe, thanks for sharing the exact model you’re using! It seems 7 inches is the exact right depth for BGS slabs, but a little bit short for PSA slabs. As we can see from your first photo, the PSA slabs are slightly higher than the foam. Do you have trouble closing the case because of that?
