Women’s volleyball
That was one of the best 100’s! Everyone basically ran together and the finish was wild!
Femke is amazing (understatement). That performance gave me chills. Can’t wait for the 400m hurdles showdown against the world-record holder Sydney.
I just love the Olympics (both Summer and Winter). Seeing so many sports that I usually don’t watch is just amazing.
As a former 100m/400m runner it is always a joy to watch to watch the sprint finals. I agree with the others, 100m yesterday was just amazing. Really curious how Lyles will do over 200m, however I don’t think he will break Usain Bolts WR.
Bouldering today was also amazing to watch (however really difficult), especially since all the athletes are just really cool and laid-back people. Great to see that Ondra (climbing god) and Schubert (climbing god #2 and a fellow Austrian) did well in the bouldering section of the semifinal today, looking forward to lead climbing on Wednesday. Also wonder if any of the other women will have a chance against Janja Garnbret.
Japan vs Italy volleyball was crazy insane. Just an unreal comeback by Italy to take it 3-2. Heartbreak for Japan but really good match.
Cheers!
Her vs Sydney basically guarantees a new world record. The two best to ever do it
Absolutely agree! Cannot wait!
Disappointed the power of fly high could not carry them to gold but a fun fun match
Men’s pole vault final was wild as expected, new world record by Duplantis while whole stadium screams was breathtaking moment. The overall attendance for athletics has been amazing, full house even on morning/afternoon sessions.
Keely Hodgkinson finally conquered 800m race in olympics/world championships, looking forward to see this again in following years.
Dream final France vs Spain otw. in men’s football as well.
Agreed! It was just him alone and a full stadium. Does not get better.
I’m on a masters rowing team and row competitively. Olympic rowers are like machines.
It’s absolutely crazy to watch them race. If you’ve never rowed before, it’s a little hard to put what they’re doing in perspective. The men’s 4- based 40 strokes per minute and sprinted at 49 strokes per minute.
If you have a rowing machine at your gym, I encourage you to try to get the monitor to say 49 strokes per minute. Not only is it unsustainably fast, but if they’re doing it then it means they’re actually getting efficient strokes in at that speed, which is even crazier.
Anyway, yes obviously Olympic athletes are very good, but seriously what they’re doing is heads and shoulders above what any normal competitive rower could even come close to doing.
Blockquote Men’s pole vault final was wild as expected, new world record by Duplantis while whole stadium screams was breathtaking moment. The overall attendance for athletics has been amazing, full house even on morning/afternoon sessions.
Louisiana legend Mondo Duplantis
Lots of really even finals last night, once the dust had settled in men’s discus the gold traveled to Jamaica with only 3 centimeter difference.
Women’s pole vault was insanity, 9 competitors passed 470 and top 3 at least 485.
The fall of Lamecha Girma looked really bad at men’s 3000m steeplechase, lights out instantly after he hit the ground.
Woke up incredibly happy this morning Australia’s single most successful day at the Olympics ever and we now have won more gold medals in Paris than at any previous Olympics!
Men’s Skateboard Park, Keegan Palmer Gold Medal defended
Men’s Dinghy Sailing, Matt Wearn Gold Medal defended
Men’s Team Pursuit Gold
Women’s Pole Vault Gold, Nina Kennedy gets Australia’s FIRST EVER Olympic Gold for Women’s Field events. Crazy.
Obviously USA is a powerhouse and leading the medal tally, but it’s so uplifting to see us continue to punch above our weight in global sports
Tough day for India at the olympics. 50Kg Womens Wrestler Vinesh Phogat who qualified into the final round was disqualified for not making the weight. She missed the mark by 100 gms in the end. She made the weight cut for the previous day but since she had 3 rounds, put in close to 2kg in the process of rehydration, food etc. She had to stay up overnight trying to lose those additional 2kg and did all she could which included chopping off her hair and drawing blood but in the end was just shy by 100 gms. She had to be hospitalised due to dehydration after not making the cut. This meant she was disqualified and demoted to the last place, which otherwise would have been a Silver medal even if she had lost.
Our female weightlifting champion in the 49kg weight class and previous Olympic silver medalist also failed to get a podium. She was returning from injury but could only manage a 4th place finish. This brings the total tally of 9 4th place finishes for India. Goes to show how intense the competition is at this level.
Hoping for a more positive Day 13 with Field Hockey Bronze match and Javelin finals.
Cheers!
Brutal
We’re is a good spot for a medal in the Womens 3m diving too. It’s been a fantastic Olympics for us and amazing to watch.
Quincy Hall digging deep and coming from behind to win gold in 400 meter finals was epic to watch yesterday!
Looks like they are off to a good start. I saw they got bronze in hockey today
What a night it was for javelin throw, perhaps greatest finals of all time. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem smashes olympic record and overall the winning throw was in top 20 longest recorded.
Letsile Tebogo’s 200m victory was a great surprise, no podium sweep for USA this time.
What Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone did in 400m hurdles is just shocking, almost 0.3 second improvement to her previous world record.
