Pack crackers, how do you determine what you keep sealed?

Curious for those of you that crack packs instead of buying singles- how, if ever, do you decide to keep some product sealed?

I will never open more than 1-2 booster boxes from the same set. For special sets like Crown Zenith, I will open 3-4 ETBs. Anything more gives you diminishing returns.

Once you open 2+ booster boxes, the packs look shockingly similar and the number of “new” cards is limited to chase alt arts and some obscure V and VMAXs.

I can break it down into 2 categories: do I know what’s in a pack or not. There is also a difference between older and new.

For example: I have some old pop promo packs that are sealed. But there are only 2 cards in the pack, and the odds of drawing something super rare like a gold star is slim, and I already have most cards from that pop series. Verdict: keep them sealed.

For older, weighed wotc packs, depends on if you want to grade the cards or are going for a holo or shining card. But you may already have all cards from a set, so why open the pack when it goes up in value each year?

For newer packs: I have no interest in them, so im keeping them sealed indefinitely to sell at a later point.

I don’t open light packs anymore.

Depending on the set, 3 boxes is enough ( like @Dyl said, things do become very similar after 2+ boxes.) After that it is more tempting to preserve the sealed box.

…at least that’s what I told myself before I opened my 4th 1st ed Fossil box.
