Nintendo Switch 2 announced / Nintendo Direct April 2, 2025

Didn’t Nintendo say that the Switch 2 is going to be backwards compatible? I’m not sure they would make a port for PLZA when it’s already playable on Switch 2. But I agree that PLZA being a Switch 1 release is the more realistic scenario as much as I want it to be a Switch 2 exclusive.

So, I haven’t played a game since gold and silver, and then heart gold for the johto nostalgia, but I have thought that I’d want to play PLA and PLZA/gen 10 (and make it a whole experience again with avoiding spoilers).
Would it be best to wait for the switch 2 to come out instead of buying the switch that’s available now?

After watching the sneak peeks and all, I feel very “meh” about this whole release so far.

I’d say absolutely. Switch is very much at the end of its lifecycle and struggles with the newer Pokemon games. They all play fine, but the visual experience is lacking. Switch 2 is supposed to have significantly more power, which will hopefully do away with all those issues and have a smoother experience. ZA isn’t confirmed to be Switch 2 exclusive but will probably play much better on it. Gen 10 I assume will be Switch 2 exclusive.

I really hope it’s good. At the very least, i hope they took the time to polish the game. I was very disappointed with all the bugs/issues SV had on release.

IMO Nintendo wasn’t planning on announcing this so soon at all. Their hand was forced due to all of the leaks, which is why it was a pretty bare bones announcement. Usually when new consoles are annouced you get some new games announced too, a price point, features, etc. Not the case at the moment.

Speaking during an investor Q&A published this week, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said that both games are still planned for release this year on the original Switch. Furukawa also said the company plans to continue to support the aging hardware as long as there is demand.

While both titles are planned for the original Switch, both will be playable on Nintendo Switch 2 regardless. Nintendo Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with original Nintendo Switch software, Nintendo has confirmed, which analysts have speculated could boost the new console’s launch sales due to its strong library of games on day one.

Some pokemon related points:

PLZA will have a Switch 1 and Switch 2 Upgrade Edition (the game is still a Switch 1 title in both cases). The switch 2 edition will have better framerate and resolution

Pokemon XD and Colosseum from the Gamecube will be playable on Switch 2 via an NSO expansion pack

Scarlet and Violet will be playable on Switch 2, but no mention of a Switch 2 Edition Upgrade

120 FPS, Mario kart 9, Gamechat… better storage…

I’ve been praying for times like this..

EDIT: ELDEN RING!?!??!?! WHAT IS THIS !?!?!?!

EDIT 2: CYBERPUNK!?!?!?!?!?!?

EDIT 3: 3D DONKEY KONG?!?! KIRBY AIR RIDERS?!?! RTX Shading!?! Gameshare!?!

If it allows me to stream games to youtube I’m done.

THIS. IS. PEAK. CINEMA.

Cinema is for things you watch, this is gaming. I doubt its peak but it does indeed seem to cater to modern play styles.

All great news. Can’t complain. Was really hoping Legends Arceus got the enhancements.

Not only the games, but with the tarrifs, wont the console itself will be a lot more expensive? The games will also have a higher price ceiling but not sure if it affects the price if the game is digital. Looks to be an expensive affair overall.

Cheers!
