Switch 2 Is Here!

Today was the launch of the Switch 2!

I was initially planning to wait, but ended up going to Costco this morning and was able to purchase the Mario Kart and 12 month online membership bundle very easily.

I’ve seen Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are much smoother experiences with Switch 2 updates, so I’m really excited to finally play it. Also excited for new Donkey Kong and Wind Waker on virtual console!

Did you pick up a Switch 2 today, or do you plan to in the future?

I will probably get one closer to when Z-A comes out. No Switch 2 exclusive games I want right now but eventually the Mario, Zelda, Smash and Fire Emblem will be out.

If it comes down to around half the price for it, and the games Ill consider it.

It is certainly very expensive. The regular cost of a switch 2 game is $99.99 CAD

Can you play switch games on a switch 2?

I preordered mine from Walmart and it arrived to my house before I left for work! It was nice to open it up, get it setup and updated so it’s ready for me when I get home.

@Will Switch2 is backwards compatible with the Switch. There are some games that are not compatible with Switch 2 but I think that’s limited to the gimmicky games like Nintendo Labo.

I’m excited to check out Violet. I played Scarlet when it came out and had a lot of fun despite the performance. From what I’ve seen it seems to have drastically improved. I’ve also been waiting on playing Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom so I’m excited to try that out too

For people that got the Switch 2 already, I’d be interesting in hearing about the improved performance in Scarlet & Violet and Legends Arceus.

there are a lot of videos showing off SV already, but it basically looks like it was remastered even though it wasn’t. I haven’t seen PLA yet

Serebii has a breakdown of their experience with it. Also has a video showcasing it

I’m interested to see how games that don’t have an upgrade perform on Switch 2 like Legends Arceus.

likely just improved load times as well as little to no hardware stutters, but without the improved asset loading in world

My switch could not handle scarlet when it came out sadly. I’m excited to try BOTW as well cause even tho it was a launch title for switch 1, it was a lil stuttery in places. Also haven’t played tears yet.

Switch has an amazing library of games so very happy to have that backward compat

Wow, seeing SV run in 60 fps is kind of uncanny

Unfortunately, you can only play Atari Jaguar cartridges on it. Baffling design decision.

Do you have to pay extra for back compat enhancements?

Only on certain games. For example, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom require you to purchase the upgrade package to get the enhancements but Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s upgrade is free.
