The first “Prism Star” card has been revealed from Japan’s SM5 set, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon! The set will release in Japan on December 8th.
The new Prism Star mechanic was first mentioned in the set description for Ultra Prism, our English equivalent of SM5 which will be released in February. The set description mentioned there would be six Prism Star cards in the set, so the same should be true of Japan’s SM5.
The Lost Zone returns! Once a card is in the Lost Zone, there’s no way to get it back — it’s a special discard pile. The mechanic was first introduced in Stormfront back in 2008 and was inspired by the Distortion World from Pokemon Platinum. It’s usually associated with Giratina.
So what is a Prism Star Pokemon? It seems they will be Big Basic Pokemon (powerful Basic Pokemon) with a special rainbow prism in the background of the card template and their own unique rarity. If it weren’t for the Prism Star rule, Solgaleo ◇ would be broken since it’s a 160 HP Basic that can easily power up multiple attackers at the same time and your opponent would have to limit the number of Pokemon they put into play. But luckily only one can be played in a deck!
A deck can have four Solgaleo, four Solgaleo-EX, a Solgaleo ◇, and a Lunala ◇. You can have multiple Prism Star Pokemon, but only one of each.
If it said 6 prisms per set, then i am guessing it is maybe a similar pull rate to the new shinings. 2 per box?? i am not sure…
I think i need to see it in person to decide.
I like the border, i don’t know about the crystal diamond though. I get the feels they are trying to attract more chicks to the game. haha
It will probably look nicer in person, and maybe some different artworks. Would be interesting if they could incorporate the pokemon art with the diamond somehow… like… mewtwo launching or charging a beam with the diamond…
I wonder if these are going to replace Rainbow Rares and / or Secret Rares or will they stay still… I mean that’s quuuuite a lot to collect from one set if there will be GX, GX FA, GX Rainbow Rares, Secret Rares(?) and these Prism cards
