What do you all think about the new mystery boxes from Walgreens that are actually containing vintage booster packs. From what I’ve seen on Facebook people have been pulling base, first ed gym heroes, ex FRLG, ex Holon Phantoms, and Platinum, to name a few. Where are these old booster packs coming from that they’re able to put into these mystery boxes?
That’s a good question. I’ve seen several videos of people opening the box showing them pull vintage packs. There are rumors that packs are either light or resealed, though I haven’t been able to find any specific story or video of a resealed pack. Even if they’re all light unlimited packs, it’s a crazy good deal for vintage packs.
Any proof of them actually pulling these booster packs/proof that any random buyer can actually get them? Or is it an advertising campaign intended to get people to buy them from whoever is supplying them to Walgreens?
Have seen multiple videos on YouTube of people opening sealed boxes. Saw one pulling a platinum pack, another pulling unlimited base pack. Not all boxes have vintage packs though.
Can’t find any evidence of anyone opening a sealed pack from one of these boxes though, so hard to say if it’s resealed or not.
Thre definitely real–I’ve seen enough genuine sources pull them from mystery boxes. I believe these mystery boxes are made by a third party (NOT Pokemon). However, I do not know if the packs are all/mostly all weighed light or what. Haven’t seen videos to determine that.
I can’t speak for every single different mystery box sold in stores–and some are definitely better than others–but from what I’ve seen they are legitimate as far as actually providing vintage packs at a ratio that is probably equivalent to that promised on the box.
I watched a video of a guy who opened one of these and pulled a Base Unlimited pack. He opened the pack and did the three card trick from the back and the cards were not in the correct order. Not sure if that was an error or potentially resealed pack but interesting data point.
Okay this is information from Reddit and Youtube pokemon box openers, so it may not be accurate, but the boxes are packaged by MJ Holdings (for Walmart anyways) and they release Mystery boxes quite consistently throughout the years. They definitely are legit in regards to have a chance at pulling vintage packs, but some “vintage” packs are much more common than others. I’ve seen multiple youtubers pull a lot of platinum/leaf green packs but as of yet never saw someone actually pull anything from the WOTC era.
I don’t think MJ holdings would tamper with the packs because they are a huge distributor for Pokemon cards for walmart, and frankly it would not be worth their time to have someone weigh the packs or tamper/reseal the packs to make a like a few extra dollars of profit when their company’s reputation is at stake. It’s not impossible, but feels very unlikely. As they are a humongous distributor, there’s a good chance they have a bunch of old stock of damaged boxes/blisters which makes it a potential source of area to obtain older vintage packs.
They do used to sell packs with a chance to pull like a “PSA 10 charizard or a PSA 10 blue eyes white dragon”, and all I’ve seen from box openings is people pulling BCCG 10 or PSA 10 or some really crappy holo or rare of a card, so take those with a huge grain of salt.
I’d just like to add, if you get the vintage pack, it’s an extra pack instead of replacing one of the other packs so these are incredibly easy to weigh. And if your cities anything like mine they’ll probably already be weighed by someone at the store leaving only ones without vintage packs.
