New Illustration Contest in Japan! [WINNER update]

Who would’ve thought

Could only certain Pokémon be drawn? Wondering why so many of the same species were chosen.

Translation: I’m sour that Rayquaza isn’t here.

Yes! They had specific characters for participants to choose from.

Overall I love them! I’m very excited to see who the winner will be!

The Gourgeist is the only one I liked and own from that set.

Did they say how many the winner would get?

Usually I respect your opinion in this hobby, (I know I could just ignore this) but what you are saying is objectively wrong.

By what measure is the level of most of this amateur? Especially relative to the majority of existing cards?

I can understand if you didn’t like the artwork in some of the earlier competitions, but some of these are incredibly intricate.

@pottsinator, They restricted it to just the good Pokemon.

P.S. I’ve already predicted your snarky retort mister Pratte.

My top 5 faves;

Sleeping Eevee
Sunset Gardevoir
Christmas lights Pikachu
High tech Mewtwo by Mr. Untanumi-san
Bathtub Slowpoke

I will never afford to get any of them if they get printed but best of luck :person_shrugging:

I don’t expect many to agree. My feeling is it makes a mockery of the hobby to release cards drawn by any amateur joe blow.
I equate it to me replacing Wayne Rooney in Wembley Stadium or performing as the headliner at the Hollywood Bowl. Who would care?
It tarnished the sanctity of all that is pure with the hobby…to me.
I really don’t want to spoil every body else’s fun with this though so carry on and I’ll drop out;)

Here’s my top six:

Although after the first two it was pretty hard to pick, since there are loads of great ones. Personally I really hope for Gardevoir, Darkrai, Slowpoke, Metagross, and Ho-Oh however (and a sixth one… Perhaps a second Slowpoke or the Eevee that’s at my nr 1 spot?), since Pikachu, Charizard, Eevee, and Mewtwo already get all the attention. Yes, I collect Pikachus myself, and I’m also curious to see what a Charizard would fetch. But considering Pikachu had 12 in the 2016 Art Academy contests and I still need 6, I would prefer it if the releases slowed down a bit, and other Pokémon deserve to be in the spotlights as well. Bummer there isn’t a Seviper. Great to see so many Slowpoke entries however. Great choice of illustration contest card.

It’s doesn’t specify. He doesn’t really even say if they get the card or how many. Just says something like grand winner will get art made into card

Can’t wait for the entitled, degenerate, scummy western collectors harassing the winners to sell their cards(assuming the winners get x amount of the cards).

They are all just so perfect though. Definitely going to be on the lookout for a few if my picks win.
