Ohhh gotcha, It’s definitely looking that way yeah. I think people were expecting Celebrations UPC pt. 2, but with a box of standard print cards they can just run this box until the cows come home.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I would rather have this product overprinted than underprinted.

Definitely agreed here. I’d prefer at least everybody that wants one gets one.

100%! Looks like Pokémon agrees!

Or 8. :joy:

Assuming all my preorders go through.

I have a feeling this box will be sitting on store shelves for $120 after the second wave. It will move for sure, but there will also be periods of availability.

I definitely won’t be getting any more though. I share the Special Delivery Charizard vibes.

Out of curiosity, why are you purchasing 8 boxes?

Haha! Hey you do you, I know I’ve got 2 sealed Celebrations UPCs I got during that whole time period that I haven’t touched. It’d be neat if average collectors actually had a chance to get their hands on these. I think with the holidays it’ll be rough even if they do make it to the shelves.

1 from Safari Zone, as part of a bundle with a Chilling Reign Build & Battle Display Case, for $325. Not the best deal in retrospect.

5 from GameStop. That was the limit at my local store.

2 from Pokemon Center.

Last year I waited outside my local GameStop in line before they opened, trying to get a Celebrations UPC. I didn’t get any. The store only had one, so only the first person in line got one. So I jumped on this preorder when I had the opportunity.

Sorry, I meant to ask why you are purchasing so many boxes, rather than where you purchased them from.

Oh ok. Everything I buy is always for my long term collection or long term “investing”. I don’t ever flip.

I like focusing on less variety of products, but more quantity of products in my collection. It gives me the ability to slowly sell some off over the years and then the leftovers are free.

I did the same thing with many previous releases, like the Generations ETBs. Down to just 1 of those left now, part of my permanent collection. I expect the same will happen for this UPC in several years.

I’m glad this looks like it is being printed to the moon. I wanted the cards inside and now I was able to buy one without paying a scalper. Who cares if it’s sitting on the shelves in a few months, not every card has to stonk 10x due to underprinting

If past performance is any indication of future performance (which, it isn’t always of course), even if something is vastly printed if the market demand is there the price will always follow. I think the alt arts in there are really cool, that’s why I wanted the box anyways, and it seems like a lot of people tend to agree. So it could still be a really good pickup to hold on to even if you’re just in it for stonks. :slightly_smiling_face:

This is pure speculation, but I wonder if the celebrations metal cards made them more cumbersome to print.

That’s my guess as well, those gold cards had to have had a fairly extensive/costly (as compared to a standard card) printing process, so I imagine they were very conscious about overprinting.

Definitely. The damage on the metal cards was often at the place where the sheet of metal is being held while it was being galvanised (“dipped” in melted protective alloy to give it rust-proof finish).

I doubt TPC has a dedicated facility for this, so definitely my guess would be that the manufacturing process of these metal cards was significantly more complicated. Involving third parties and technological challenges.

EDIT: Slight disclaimer, I’m not a metal-worker by trade. What I said is what I picked up on summer jobs in metal workshops so feel free to correct me.

I prefer it being more limited as I just generally prefer collecting things that have a bit of rarity to them plus the speculation factor is a bonus. I’ll probably be skipping this one

If target ever runs out, Walmart seems to still have them up too.

Haven’t been able to actually buy from Walmart or Target. Whenever I try to add to cart it just says unavailable or something else. A few times I was able to add to cart but it didn’t let me check out.

Glad I got two through the Pokemon Center
