I started my collection with full 1st edition PSA 9 Holo sets of Neo Genesis, Neo Revelation, and Team Rocket.
Over time i’ve started to concentrate on particular species/cards, but i wondered what you all thought of the value of the sets above over the next 5-10 years.
With 9s, I’d expect a slow increase in price until the supply of 10s really drops off. That will probably take longer for Team Rocket than the other two, if it ever does happen.
Particularly for 9s, you’re better off hunting those really good under-market prices rather than buying at the market value and waiting for the growth. That’s what I think from a financial perspective.
Really though, you should just buy what you like and what makes you happy. Seeing an increase in the value of the items you own should just be a fortunate side-effect.
If you only care about value Lugia, Shining Gyarados, Shining Magikarp and Dark Charizard holo are the only cards from those set’s I’d consider in any speculative capacity.
Complete sets are not good investments. Like PFM said, buy cards because you want them and not because you think they’ll grow quickly in the next few years.
I was actually only thinking about the regular holos in my original post, forgot about the shinings haha. I agree with budget that these cards in particular have a lot more potential.
