I really wished this was AI and not real.
Still gonna buy it though, obviously.
Hopefully the full arts are half decent.
Wishful thinking but I was hoping they’d replace this yellowish green background color for dragon types with the original dark green color
Do you just not like it? If I collected dragonite I feel like Id be excited to see it.
it looks like a chicken
Hey, chickens r cool!
But yeah, this feels underwhelming lol
They really dropped the ball with mega dragonite
Its the og dragon but they make him look like a fairy?
Should of just changed his typing to dragon/fairy like altaria. If they were going for the dragonair connection then a change of color would be in order. A fan changed up the coloring a lot and the artwork was much less offensive
The horn kinda looks like a crystal, almost like jewelry. Very feminine design throughout
Personally I think this is why Dragonite is possibly the best of the Dragon Pokemon and even Pokemon in general since it is not one-dimensional in terms of personality. It’s intelligence is on par with humans and can also behave and emote the same way. There are various examples in Pokemon media of Draonite’s being an absolute force of nature but I like the fact that it is not slotted into one character trait like so many other Pokemon. It can be silly and goofy when it wants to and just an absolute monster when it wants to.
I know the lore on this Pokemon is not completely fleshed out but I still stand by the theory that it maybe inspired by the Greek Mythology.
It could very possibly be a female Dragonite depicted. After all, they have a 50/50 male/female ratio. I mean it is silly to consider all Dragonite as male.
Cheers!
I understand fully but what im saying is the design of mega is not right
The coloring is off. They are trying to make it look more like dragonair
But dragonair is slim and blue so it doesnt work at all
If they are going for the dragonair look then change the coloring:
Or tweak the design:
Even their own design.. not changing the spirit of anything, is just lazy. They did such a half baked job
I like the second design here
I think the original design is very heavily based on cultural lore. I think TPC did not randomly just change Dragonite to look so different from Dragonair simply but because the concept is inspired from Chinese / Korean dragons in mythology. Same like Magikarp - Gyarados which is based on the koi which changes to a Dragon after a long journey. I know people have always complained that Dragonair being so elegant suddenly changing into the fast food eating Pokemon has never fit well but I believe that these are more rooted in lore.
The mega is just going to be an extension on the original Pokemon design. I do not think there are any Mega Pokemon which deviate from the original color scheme so Dragonite would never be any different.
But yes, these themes are very subjective and I understand not everyone will like all new Pokemon designs. It is a matter of personal taste and I am not an art guy so I cannot grasp if something is poorly designed. However, I do strongly believe that Pokemon bases a lot of things deep in lore and cultural context (even the ones that come off as lazy). I feel this is one of the more underrated and actually the more positive aspects of Pokemon.
Cheers!
I am begging people to remember that despite more recent animation attempts to make dragonite “cool”, dragonite has always been a “derpy” Pokémon. Think about the original design. Its wings are disproportionately small compared to its body, its face is far more “cartoonish” than later dragon designs, etc. Every mega evolution design takes the base Pokémon design to an extreme. Charizard, glalie, mawile, gardevoir, aerodactyl are all good examples. Dragonite’s mega is honestly very on brand - it looks goofy, in a good way, because dragonite itself looks goofy, in a good way.
Maybe all of that is true but they should just make the fans happy. Making my rounds across the internet it seems fans are overwhelmingly disappointed.
Who knows perhaps the design will grow on people over time
For a company as protective of its own IP as Pokémon, I doubt they ever considered what fans thought of the design process. Creativity always has risks, some pay off better than others, but it should never be reduced to a fanfic - even if I don’t agree with this design either. I think most will get used to it like Paradox, regional forms and other gimmicks
The idea that this is even possible is part of the problem. Pokémon fans are unbelievably fickle
not enough wings
I will say Mega Dragonite design is pretty awful and I’m sorry for you. I’m not a fan of Mega Gyarados either but it’s connection with the anime lore makes it very interesting to me. Megas in general are not something I enjoy, but yeah, Dragonite is pretty bad (imo). At least it doesn’t have a moustache like Alolan Golem, it could be worst.
if the second design was mega dragonite, It would have been my new favorite mega form instantly.
They could make it the alolan form maybe?
Mega Dragonite’s transformation will debut in today’s JP episode of Pokémon Horizons: Mega Voltage
