I showed the video to a friend of mine, he went to their reddit account and checked their posting habits. Judging by what and how they post, they are definitely not one of the brighter people you will meet.
If this guy never actually puts them on the market, they will not significantly effect the price as no one can actually acquire them. However, to know that thousands of cards exist, in nm-mint-gem mint condition, should be a reality check that Gold Stars were released in sets, by the thousands.
Well technically they are part of the market because the seller is actively looking for a buyer (aren’t they?). Well anyway, it doesn’t effect the price of single cards for now.
Yes, he is looking for a buyer, but realistically, no one will bite for awhile, or ever at his current asking price. They are technically not available to the average consumer, which is what would immediately impact the value.
I recommended months ago for the upccc community to use caution if you were looking to spend your money on even ONE gold star…unless you had the extra money for a super high risk investment. Now that a small amount have surfaced some of you guys are discussing a 5000 card purchase? We’ve had groups of members get together and make high dollar partnership buys before but this is not the time and these are certainly not the items to speculate on now.
Of course, if your just trying to complete your set cause these are cool cards a little waiting could save you a lot of money. Then again…maybe the main lode will stay buried and the prices could stableize. Nobody, except the possesor knows for sure.
$35,000 is a great opening offer. No doubt about that in my mind.
No one is going to buy this lot unless there is enough profit to be made to justify the original investment. And I have to find 5000 buyers looking to spend current value to sell this lot if I buy it.
If the information of their quantity were not publicly known, the offers might be better. But he has clearly screwed himself.
I assure you, it is not THIS guys cards we need to be concerned with as far as affecting the value of gold stars.
I’m seriously wondering whether this lot is simply a smokescreen to temporarily conseal the existence of the waaaay larger lot. The word is out that a hoard exists and maybe they think they can convince everyone that this is the known hoard whereas it isn’t even close. And then, they will be open to move the rarest ones individually or in small lots at current market value until the values drastically nosedive.
Does this sound plausible?
It sounds plausible but I was thinking that the original seller was testing the market. Your description sounds much more plausible. Either way the hoard owner is probably watching how this unfolds and I doubt they will be likely to repeat this again.
It’s an unethical “killer investment” with no “gentlemen” involved if it requires concealing the fact there are massive amounts of the cards hidden. So, I think its great the video got out on those.
