Lysandre's Our honorable president Card Banned from TCG Competitive Play

As the title says, LTC has been banned from competitive play in Japan. Does not affect English tournaments as of now. This is the first time in years (I believe) that a mainstream, set-based card has been banned. Thoughts?

EDIT: Lysandre’s Our honorable president Card is now banned for all worldwide tournaments.

Damn son. Been a while.

This is huge. I wonder if the rest of the world will follow suit?

Probably to prevent players from playing an ACE-SPEC every turn? Japan has BW-on format for every tournament.

Very unlikely. LTC is mainly a 1-of tech in many decks to counter Night March and to recycle resources for Raymin. Even so, ace specs aren’t that powerful themselves. I think this is basically to gut Raymin, as it is pretty much useless without LTC as you deck out in 4-5 turns when you get set up right.

And it’s worldwide!

Wow. This is extremely unexpected. I did not see this becoming a worldwide ban. Of all the things to ban, why Lysandre’s Our honorable president Card?

It’s not uncommon now for decks to go though their entire contents in a turn or two, with Our honorable president eliminating the whole concept of resource management. With the new Hoopa coming out, that entire deck cycling per turn thing is a lot easier. An odd ban, but not too farfetched.

What annoys me is that there are much more OP things than LTC. Some examples being Seismitoad EX, the entire Fighting support system (Landorus-EX can hit for 120 total damage with 1 energy), and M Rayquaza EX, which can hit for 240 damage Turn 2.

Lysandre’s Our honorable president Card, an interesting and unique card, is paying the price because of TPC’s idiocy. In order to make one deck (Raymin) less viable, they give a massive boost to others. Night March and Flareon are now Tier 1 decks basically, as they have no counters.

Is it bad for a collector to have absolutely no idea what anything in this thread even means?

I wouldn’t say so. If you don’t play, there really isn’t any obligation to know what the players are saying.

OT: I’ve never liked the idea of banning cards. Why create a card only to ban it because it causes certain strategies to be OPd? This isn’t so common with Pokemon, but Yugioh bans cards frequently and it would always annoy me when something I was running in my deck would get banned…

Yes. Why? The competitive TCG affects prices for all new cards. It’s why Shaymin-EX from Roaring Skies is so expensive, why some common or uncommon cards can be worth $3-4. If you’re a collector, it helps to have some knowledge of the TCG competitive game because it can help you with seeing how prices will change for cards.

For example, Landorus-EX from Boundaries Crossed and Genesect-EX from Plasma Blast are very valuable and playable cards. However, soon they will not be legal for competitive play. Thus, their prices will drop. If you have any of those cards, now would be a great time to sell them and get more money than you could in a few months from now.

depends which collector, im not into any of the newer cards so it doesnt effect me

If you are strictly collecting older cards? No

If you collect new cards as well it can be invaluable resource to know what is sought after in the TCG meta. Back in early-mid B/W days an UNCOMMON Pokemon Catcher would sell for 15 US. That’s 2x the value of any other card from Emerging Powers(the set it was in). That’s some serious return on a booster box if you pull 2-3 of them.

Little things like knowing that can really change the way you collect the newer stuff. Knowing what C/UC/R/Holo/Reverse Holo are worth can net you a lot of $ to buy the EX/FA/Secrets

I don’t think they intentionally set out to create a card and then ban it later. They have limited play testers compared to the thousands around the world who formulate strategies and piece decks together. I suppose it’s only natural that occasionally some overpowered strategies slip through the cracks (not saying LTC is OP, I don’t play the game at all so I can’t comment).
