I recently picked up something unusual and I’m trying to gather more information: a 2014 UNO Pokémon XY – Charizard “Green #2”, graded PSA 10 GEM MINT.
Current pop report: 11 PSA 10s, none higher (and ~152 cards from this UNO XY set graded in total).
From the CHL30 UNO Pokémon XY deck (Mattel × Pokémon, 2014), with CE mark + UPC 0887961082357, which suggests international/English distribution.
Market data is almost nonexistent — I’ve only found a few PSA 10 sales around $75–80 earlier this year.
Has anyone here ever seen this deck sealed in English, or know of other collectors who have graded these UNO XY cards? Any scans, info, or references would be greatly appreciated
While these cards were available domestically in Japan and contained Japanese text, the Mattel company clearly had international distribution strategies for them as indicated on the packaging.
The phrase “manufactured for and imported into the EU” on the packaging would be a clear declaration of this intent.
Also, the product packaging includes a CE mark. This mark is a mandatory conformity marking for products sold within the European Economic Area (EEA), indicating that the product meets EU safety, health, and environmental protection requirements.
Mattel would have been using international distribution from the outset, to capitalise on the universal popularity of Pokemon.
