Looking for advice on my sealed english collection

So this is what I’ve kept over the past couple years.

A lot of this stuff is probably gonna be for the long haul but I’m hoping to get some more input.

Are the ES + team up at the top of the market? Or do I hold?

Why are you keep ENG sealed? You should keep JPN instead.

I have both, I can attach my japanese collection if you’re interested :stuck_out_tongue:

You need the money now? Then sell.
You don’t need the money urgently? Then hold.

Overall, the market is cooling down a bit. So probably not the best time to sell.

You’ll be waiting a long time for Chilling Reign to appreciate in value

Lol I wish I could blame it on someone else but me. These are mainly just things that I never got around to selling since the profit wasn’t really there, and now I’m still stuck with them.

You would get a lot more satisfaction from opening all this stuff over a period of time, building a binder of the best pulls/grading the best cards.

Just my take though, it’s your collection!

I think a lot of people are massively overestimating the appreciation of ‘post pandemic’ sealed Pokemon products in the future.

It will probably worth a bit more in the future but everyone suddenly became a ‘pokeinvestor’ since 2020, which will not help appreciation because so much supply is being kept sealed instead of opened.

If you are looking to purely make money I would sell the lot personally. When you factor in opportunity cost and selling fees, a lot of English modern sets aren’t worth it.
Of course there are outliers to this but I think a lot of people are hoarding the same stuff.

Traditional investing would be better/easier in my opinion.

But you collect what you like! We all have different tastes

Agree. I am much more optimistic on pre-2020 products & cards from an investment perspective. I do believe SWSH/post-2020 will be in-demand long term as it has many strong sets/cards. But at the same time it’s good to not have too high of expectations given the unusual cicurmstances that the Pokemon market went through during this era and the fundamental changes that have occured as well.

Basically, I am in the camp/attitude of what worked in the past will not necessarily work as well this time and I think many people are thinking it will play out the same as previous sets. I guess anything is possible, but my outlook is neutral at this time.

I would sell the ones you have multiple quantities of, or atleast get down to 2 of each. Then put that money in something else (mutual fund for example).

A lot of the stuff you have in the photo is the same story for all the post 2019 pokeinvestors that fill their closets of this stuff

My opinion would be to sell it all. I would not want a few thousand tied up in modern English sealed product when so many better opportunities exist right now.

What you “should” do kinda depends on why youre buying all this stuff in the first place. If you really truly enjoy your sealed collection, keep it-- why sell?

If its all money game… youre most certainly gonna sell at loss if you sell rn. As I said, its all gonna depend on why you bought/ why you want to sell

IMO this sealed collection isn’t of much value nor do I expect it to gain much if anything over 10 years. Try to buy more exclusive items if you are buying modern, and also as others have said Japanese!

If I were you, and I do dabble in modern sealed…

Dump all that isn’t a sealed box. Dump etbs blisters sleeved etc.

Boxes are the staple and safest to hold for sealed

Lock it away for a while and enjoy the hobby and life. If you need the money, then consider the value that’s involved there.

That subreddit makes me feel dirty for even owning sealed items.

No one is ever going to pat you on the back here for holding onto sealed modern product, even though the story is the same every time.

I remember posts back in 2019-2020, people hooing and hawing all over any value in sealed modern, and now it’s considered “pre-covid” product lol. 3 years from now your chilling reign will be just fine.

One more reference: people were scoffing at Evolving Skies rising to $200 and $300 here just last year. Now it’s selling $400+ online, and $500 at LGS.

That said, stay away from all the junk checklane products . Boxes are the best option.
