Logan “double up” Paul

Unintentional or not, he’s a marketing genius.

Doesn’t make him any less of an unpleasant person though. Doesn’t make him any more of a person who I’d like to represent my hobby.

I’d prefer not to talk about him, in fact I don’t think I ever have until now. If he behaves like a decent human being from now on, hopefully I’ll never have a reason to ever talk about him again. Let’s hope for the best

Talking, gawking, mocking, flocking, but hopefully not WALKING, walking away from the hobby. I cant complain about him being around, hes in a different lane than me, and i dont expect him to effect my enjoyment of the hobby

As much as he’s not our cup of tea, he’s bringing plenty of exposure which can only be a good thing for the progression of the hobby. I understand why anyone would question the ethics of an unsavoury character representing PTCG, but it’s the same anywhere you look in the free market; questionable characters and questionable ethics delivering goods, services and luxury things. Hell, I’m typing this on a smartphone and god knows what poor bugger had to get underpaid to make this. But I still bought it. The long and short of it is there’s an element of hypocrisy when we pick and choose who we want representing our hobby and marketplace.

I don’t think anyone is arguing he isnt good at getting people to talk about him. Praising him on the other hand is something that would make me sick

What I get out of this is knowing how many all around good future collectors he could influence into the hobby, and for that I’m okay with him jumping in.

I don’t see anyone here praising him (unless you consider to be skilled at drawing attention to himself to be praise).

I said this before, but I’m just a 32-year-old man that was too old to have ever followed Logan Paul videos (and from peeking at his content, younger me would not have been interested either). My knowledge about him right now is that he did a couple of things that were unequivocally bad (which he apologized for) and has spent years drumming up controversy in general and creating a huge following. And I know he obviously has a deep love for Pokemon, which is why he has a Squirtle tattoo and is going to spend 7-figures on Pokemon cards.

So having said all of this… maybe it would have been better if Mother Teresa had been the first super big name celebrity opening up Pokemon card packs for the world to see.

But hey, I’ll take this. More eyes on the hobby can only be a good thing for the hobby as a whole.

I should say I’m not against him jumping in. He’s free to do whatever he wants. And he might bring in people that could become lifelong friends of mine. I welcome that.

That doesn’t mean I will ever like or accept him personally because racism and exploitation bother me far too much.

I grew up in one of the richest towns in America, my reasons for disliking him are for basically everything BUT money

To be fair, there’s a lot of F tier people deeply involved in this hobby anyways. At least Logan will only be a buyer. It’s not like he’s gonna be commenting on forums or sending cards to be regarded 50x times for a single card. At the end of the day, all he does is bring more exposure to the collectible aspect of Pokemon and that’s a good thing for our hobby’s longevity

Why are we so stubborn as people that we continue to judge others in their worst moments even when that’s not an accurate representation of who they are today? What ever happened to giving second chances and letting people have the benefit of the doubt? Why do we love to continue to trample on people who have erred instead of providing them with an opportunity to learn and grow?

I’m sure we can all agree that what he did in Japan was stupid, but the person he is today is night and day from who he was two years ago. I’m probably one of the handful of people on this forum who actually consumes Logan/Jake Paul content regularly (for reasons which I’d rather not get into) and everything I’ve seen has truly led me to believe that he is a better person. I’ve always found it funny that people are so opposed to him trying to redeem himself. Logan’s brought more suicide awareness than probably 99.99% of this world and he’s contributed in excess of a million dollars to suicide prevention programs. Logically, it’s clear that good that’s transpired from his actions have largely outweighed the bad so why do we continue to shit on him as if he’s some despicable person incapable of change? I’m genuinely curious, if this wasn’t Logan and it was just some rando filming dead bodies what do you people think would be a fair remedy?

I know I can’t be 100% sure that his on-camera self is not just a persona he puts on, but from what I’ve seen he has genuinely become a better person. He’s grown and matured a ton, his content doesn’t always cater to the lowest common denominator anymore, and perhaps more importantly he’s stopped surrounding himself with a bunch of yes-men who only cared about views. Jake Paul on the other hand is a train-wreck waiting to happen, but that’s another paragraph for another day. I guess all I’m trying to say is let’s be fair about our assessment of him instead of treating him as if he’s committed felony murder.

i hate this argument. drumming up controversy and having an abhorrent personality don’t make someone a “marketing genius”, or really any kind of “genius”. it doesn’t take a genius to think of ways to generate controversy and clicks, especially when someone already has a massive platform. this isn’t something to be admired or lionized

I don’t sell to anyone I don’t like, no matter what he offers me.

Not defending him (have never seen a video of his nor care to) but he didn’t just wake up one day and have 20 million followers or whatever it is. He’s very obviously good at what he does

Hey Hitler was a marketing genius too. Genius doesn’t mean good, you misconstrue connecting the two.

How would you know who they are if the sale was on eBay or something

I’ve never liked Logan Paul and have also been really put off by things he’s done in the past.

I think it’s a good quality though to give people room to change and grow. I’m not defending the guy because I don’t know enough either way, but I watched this a few weeks ago and I think it gives some candid insight that the dude is just a human. He knows the shitty things he’s done and he shows genuine intention to be a better person. It’s worth a watch if care you enough to update your perspective. I think a lot of people hear his name and their blood immediately boils, but for what it’s worth: to err is human, to forgive is divine.

Edit: it’s a long video, but for a useful part, just watch at timestamp 9:45 for a bit.

Hitler wasn’t a marketing genius; he was a fascist and cult leader. He had a certain sort of charisma that unfortunately led to people trusting him. I don’t think Logan Paul is a fascist, a cult leader, or a marketing genius. I think Logan Paul makes content that many people find entertaining, which has made him very well-known. And when someone very well-known does something, people notice. That has nothing to do with being good at marketing.
