Leonhart taking a break from YouTube or at least slowing down

I don’t blame him. While making YouTube videos can be extremely rewarding, it can take an immense toll creatively. When people are expecting you to make content, it can turn into a constant pressure that is only relieved briefly after each upload.

Every career has it’s difficulties, but I think from the outside it can be hard to understand the unique stress of being a content creator.

He switched too much focus to just analytics and how views are doing, the guys a multi multi millionaire he doesnt need to number watch too much.

Just do what makes you happy, and being obsessed with views isnt making him happy.

Clout is brain poison, unfortunately. I’ve seen it do a number on a lot of friends. They’ll make choices that don’t make sense for them and are constantly unsatisfied.

Never watched any vids but I hope he feels better and overcomes whatever is troubling him.

I used to be quite a fan and watched a lot of his videos but his content really tanked in enjoyment in the past year+ or so imo. Back in 2018,2019 etc he used to get genuine excitement pulling an awesome common art. It got to the point of late where he looks genuinely MISERABLE at pulling 1st wotc Holos that will likely grade a 9. It became less about collector enjoyment and more about recouping his out of pocket costs, which is not fun at all for me to watch.

Wish him the best on his break although he does “burn out” heart to heart videos quite often so maybe he should take a longer break

Let’s be real - most, if not all of these Pokemon videos are repetitive. He was in it longer than most, but the content is more or less the same. There’s only so much you can do. So many hustlers (read: fakers) trying to make it who don’t know any Pokemon beyond Gen 1/2.

We often talk about whether or not modern makes any sense to hold or if it’s just investors selling to others trying to not be the last one holding the bag. It’s the same for these ‘content creators’ and their viewers. Everyone trying to make it doing exactly the same as everyone else.

Anyone who makes my headphones rattle from pulling a second shadowless Pokemon Breeder obviously needs a break.

All the best to him, I’ve enjoyed some of his videos. He did some cool stuff that other poketubers didn’t, a nice change of pace from bunker style.

Some Poketubers don’t have much to fall back on if their channel tanks. Luckily, Lee is an attorney, so he could always go back to law. He also has the “Rare Candy” platform, though I am too uninformed to speak on the success of that venture.

Yeah it also depends on how long he has been out of practicing law and his age. A lot of employers will discriminate if your employment gap is too big and if you’re an older attorney. He could always start his own firm but that also depends on what type of law he practiced.

Mid 30s is old enough for age discrimination in law firms? Today I learned why all our politicians are old. :joy:

I’m sure Lee would have no trouble finding employment. Hopefully if he does it is by choice and not out of necessity.

I may not watch his content anymore but I do think it is wonderful that he managed to turn a passion into a career. If the passion is still there then I hope he is able to continue to have a career in the hobby, (assuming he still wants to combine them in that way).

Are we really theorizing on what he will do next? Let the man chill

Pokerev is built different

Fortunately, this discussion does not affect his ability to chill.

Anyone that has ever considered turning the hobby into a full-time career runs the risk of
(1) Their feelings towards the hobby changing once it becomes their source of income, and
(2) a potential burnout that hits both their career and hobby at the same time.

At least in a normal job when you experience burnout it doesn’t affect your hobby too. If anything, the hobby can be a place of refuge at those difficult times.

I do empathize with anyone that is in or has ever been in Leonhart’s current situation. It can’t be easy to navigate that situation.

Yeah it depends how long he’s been out of practice in law. He might have to start at entry level. It’s really hit and miss.

He is. He’s my favorite to watch

I watch Leonhart videos. Is it engaging, informative, educational content? No. Is it outwardly hurting or promoting hate towards an individual or group? No. It’s good white noise ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Just like 80% of my youtube watch history it’s mostly playing in the background while I do more important things. He opens up packs that I used to be able to open regularly but just can’t afford to now (although the vintage openings seem few and far between nowadays.)

You’re allowed to have an opinion on the matter and you can easily use the example of “he’s a public influencer, therefore he deserves or should expect criticism.” But by using that logic and continuing on that thread I am also allowed to point at and make fun of someone getting their panties in a twist about a guy who opens children’s trading cards on camera for a living.

Some things are better left unsaid. There are better and easier ways to get your post count up on E4.

It is strange to me that these Poketuber threads bring out reactions like this. I don’t know if it is some kind of defensive reaction that a subset of the community has, or what to actually make of it. I’ve seen similar types of posts on the Logan Paul threads in the past. People make comments about the influencer, and then other E4 members start acting mildly (or sometimes aggressively) defensive about it.

Leonhart is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) content creators in the entire hobby. Of course most of us are going to have opinions about him, whether good, bad, or neutral.

If anything, a content creator with a children’s audience might even deserve extra scrutiny since children are more easily influenced by what they see. I’m not saying that I think anything Leonhart has done has been bad for child viewers, but the mere fact he is operating in that domain makes it highly justifiable for some to hold views about his content.

I’ve actually expressed a lot of goodwill thoughts about him in this thread. However, I’ve also expressed part of why I personally lost interest in his content.

The “children’s cardboard” trope is also greatly overused in this hobby. This is not just a child’s hobby anymore. Obviously some of those children’s trading cards fetch 6 and even 7-figure prices. Many people here base their livelihood on that cardboard, or it represents a significant fraction of their net worth.

Dang, that’s crazy, his mental health has been going down for a while since he’s been declining viewership. Poor guy has to find something he loves besides pulling 100 charizards and yt views. Wish him the best. :pensive:

I genuinely think the problem is that people want a Leonhart-level youtuber that primarily targets an older audience. But that person doesn’t really exist. I guess pokerev is the closest which is why generally only positive things are said about him

Hard to fault Leonhart for being successful at capturing an audience though. Even if that audience doesn’t include you
