I’m interested why this set is sooo expensive in PSA 10. I’ve picked up the shadowless starters and pikachu in PSA 10 for a very reasonable price. I started looking around at getting the same starters for this set but there another league in prices! What makes the set such a premium? Desirability, print run or something else?
Those reverse holos have a TON of holo covering them and it’s extremely easy for it to get scratches or have factory lines. That and the cutting was not the greatest for legendary collection. Many cards have silvering or chipping, which is why PSA 10 copies of regular holos in the set are really hard. A PSA 10 Zard sells for 10 grand compared to a lowly $300 PSA 9. If you want a 10, you are best ponying up because the chances of buying a raw card and grading a 10 are slim.
They are just really hard to grade. Also legendary collection rode the hype train a bit. A few years ago it was like a base set 2 in popularity before it shot up.
The pop report on PSA 10 Charmander is like 22 which is really low. The PSA 9 is les than 70 so is this set just really hard to grade or is it the print run being smaller?
Its probably a mix of both. I’ve only ever graded 3 legendary collection cards. 1 normal holo gyarados, it got a 10! And 2 reverse holos, an abra and I forget the other. They both got 7’s! I have no clue why, I couldn’t find the reason on either of them. Its just hands down daggon hard to get 10s on those reverse holos in the set.
It being the only set to ever feature that reverse pattern might have a slight play in its expansiveness too
I feel like what makes legendary collection so valuable now is the rarity of the actual set and the pop on chase cards. Charizard only having 12 psa 10 grades makes it one of the most valuable charizard imo.
You look at those reverse holos wrong and they drop a grade.
