For anyone who was actively collecting when Evolutions first released ( I’m only a year back in ) how was the hype pre-release ? What were the rumors like ? Were distributors instantly sold out of cases ? Did everyone try to hord as much as they could or no one really care? Lol
Also evolutions was made at a time when tpci was printing sets into oblivion so they probably just made too much. Look at steam siege and crimson invasion. I don’t think these were trying to achieve what evolutions was, they were just another set. But it’s clear they definitely made too much.
I 100% agree, I would honestly rather have Evolution become a reoccurring set to make old nostalgic artwork affordable for everyone. Much better idea than what Konami does with Yugioh which is constantly reprint cards for new sets & make things convoluted. This is a great way to make newer generations throughout time have an appreciation for the older sets & maybe inspire them to collect the original cards when they become adults. People need to understand that not every card or set needs to grow in value or become “rare” to be collectible.
Out of curiosity, was it ever determined why Blastoise and Venusaur were removed as holos from Evolutions? Were they meant to be assigned as promos instead but never made it or something? I always found that decision incredibly strange.
This set doesn’t appeal to me because I have been more of a player in card games all my life. Although the art work is somewhat the same, the difference in hp and attack make it seem like fake Pokémon cards to me and don’t bring me back nostalgic. Back then when I cared more about how competitive it is as well.
