Japanese Unlimited E Series 1 Cards (Base Expansion Pack)

The ‘no obvious damages / dirt’ Cyndaquil is currently on 180,000 JPY ($1,695.63) with just over an hour remaining. Edit: It ended at 180,000 JPY.

Meanwhile the three ‘damaged/dirty’ listings have just ended: Cyndaquil sold for 91,889 JPY ($885.61), the Totodile for 65,000 JPY ($612.31), and Pichu - a pleasant surprise - for 101,000 JPY ($951.44).

It’ll be interesting to see if these prices bring more out of the woodwork.

Hoping to see a new, never-before-seen UED e1 cards *ahem ahem* 012 Charizard.

Don’t know if that’s relevant, but this sold on eBay recently.
I don’t remember seeing the sticker before, and the Pikachu pictured is unlimited.

This was bought up earlier in this thread. I don’t believe there’s a single digital image from this set which includes a 1st edition card image. There’s a poster from a book released around the same time which shows every single card in the set without the 1st edition symbol; it’s nothing to get excited about sadly.

Oops! I used to know this thread better than that!
Do we know why some of the decks have the sticker while most don’t?

@cracker, here!

As a complete guess I’d say that the ones with the stickers were likely part of the first batch to hit stores. The sticker basically says:

New Pokémon Cards Series Pokémon Card e Do not assume that the card pictured will be included
I know from the earlier Japanese sets that booster boxes continued to be distributed to stores long after the set was first released (in 2001 a fresh wave of Japanese Base Set boxes was redistributed for example, 5 years after the set was first released); it wouldn’t surprise me if these boxes were being sent out to stores long after 2001, by which point the new series sticker would no longer be relevant.

On that note though: I don’t believe anyone has ever pulled an unlimited card from one of these boxes, so don’t let what I said above fool you into believing there was ever an unlimited print run of these.

Is this interesting? Chikorita from the deck box in unlimited.

Interesting? Definitely! It’s always nice to see these in the wild.

For whatever reason this particular card has been up for ages. It started life on Rakuma at some point last year but moved over to Mercari about 6 months ago. I’m sure if they stuck it on YJA with a 1 yen starting bid it’d happily sell for around that amount, but I guess Mercari just isn’t the place people tend to go looking for those.

A Charizard appeared and sold almost immediately on Mercari today:

This brings the total number of Charizard cards I’ve seen to 10. I’ve updated the counts on my blog post to reflect this.

Turns out the seller actually sold 2 other Charizard cards before that for 5,000 JPY and 7,777 JPY.

I’ve also recently been made aware of another Mercari sale of 5,555 JPY pictured below. I don’t know when this sale happened, but I don’t believe I’ve seen this particular picture myself before:

We’re probably getting into clash territory now whereby some of the cards I’ve seen from a listing are identical to cards in another listing or may have since been graded.

On top of what has been said above, comparing my list with a post I left back in April last year which mentions PSA graded copies of the cards I figure it makes sense to add a more up-to-date comparison:

  • Clefairy - 1 (no change)
  • Charizard - 5 (+2, a PSA 9 copy which wasn’t included in my counts and a PSA 7 copy which has been mentioned in this thread already)
  • Pichu - 4 (+1, my PSA 3 copy)
  • Typhlosion - 2 (no change)

I’ve now updated the totals on my blog post to include those 4 extra Charizard cards, 2 Clefairy cards, 1 Pikachu, Pichu and Charmeleon cards. I’ll save everyone a click by sharing them here, too:

I’d love to verify that those 2 Typhlosion cards PSA has graded are real. Does anyone know if the new PSA 9 Charizard is one of the raw copies which sold recently?

The seller 痔 ALFEE on Mercari has listed Pichu, Croconaw and Charmeleon today:

As always the seller mentions that they don’t know where these cards originated.

Last week the seller mhcqw353 on YJA (auctions.yahoo.co.jp/seller/mhcqw353) listed an unlimited Clefairy and an unlimited Meowth as separate 3-day auctions:

Despite having no pictures of the backs of either card, the Clefairy sold for 110,000 JPY (page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/p822415604) and the Meowth sold for 143,000 JPY (page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/m466821939).

Assuming these are copies I haven’t seen before, that’s the 8th Clefairy and 4th Meowth I’m aware of.

I don’t think anybody posted this yet but I found a cool old e series book that shows most of the expedition and starter set cards in unlimited! This would be a dream haha but I wanted to share this and also see if anybody else has seen this? Maybe it possibly has some info on the release of these

This is the book that poster is from, I didn’t notice it showed unlimited cards until now.
