Especially if by some god damn miracle our money actually returns to having some kind of fucking value within the borders of the USA!

I could never afford any of this.

Serious question:

What do people like about PSA graded cards?

I can see the allure of having somerhing authenticated, graded, and protected.

But is there something else I’m missing? What makes people purchase a card they bought for 50 bucks and then want to spend 1k+ USD on the same card for what’s essentially a protected opinion?

I personally prefer raw as my financial priorities don’t allow me to spend a lot on PSA stuff but i think there are a couple aspects:

  1. Certain cards are now almost impossible find raw in decent condition.
  2. you are less likely to get screwed on condition if stuff is in the case.
  3. OCD. People like having specific complete sets of things, if you have a set of 8 destiny shinings in nm-m thats awesome, if you have the set with 6 PSA 10s and 2 PSA 9’s, many people would spend a lot to have that set completed to a higher specificity and go for the remaining 10’s they need.

Some cards can be incredibly dificult to score high grades on so competition and overcoming challenge also comes into it.

Many people forget that if you are incredibly anal with how you grade your own cards, the difference between what you have raw and what you have in PSA9/10 is incredibly low, some people also just enjoy collecting the labels regardless of whether they think the card deserved the grade or not (which is fine thats how they choose to collect).

Some cards I wont be able to get in 10’s my self @azulryu . Very Rare Japanese cards that are hard to get in awesome condition are very important to me lol. I want like 3 of each xD … Its like gary with his 9 charizards. MORE MORE MORE! Addiction. Accept gary is not addicted, and is just waiting sitting on a gold mine that will just keep going up and up, and his kids will definitely be going to a good UNI xD AND I HOPE YOU WAIT A LONG TIME!!!

I plan on never selling my 1st copy of everything, but my second and third of everything is the stuff I want to wait on… Maybe Ill keep 2 copies of everything though-- I DONT KNOW! Because did you see that tash guy on insta who has 3 rayquaza English gold stars in psa 10? quite a mc prettiness site if you ask me… Its very hard to get 1 of these No rarities, let alone 3. I will put everything into them, and Gold stars. I will try and not be stupid about it, but its hard sometimes lol… THATS WHY I HAVE YOU GUYS… YOLL CAN CALM ME DOWN With your wise Knowledge, and temperament.

A very good question. It probably varies for every collector, but here are the reasons why I collect PSA graded cards and spend exorbitant amounts on grading fees (I don’t really buy any PSA card over $100 though).

  1. Exclusivity. It’s hard to differentiate yourself from other collectors in a mass-produced hobby. PSA provides a great way to do it. There may be 10,000 English Darkrai EX Full Arts out there, but there are only 5 in PSA 10.

  2. Increased financial value. Generally PSA grading increases the value of a card. This is to say, the value of the graded card eclipses the value of the ungraded card plus grading fees. This increases the value of your collection if you decide to sell certain cards down the road, or sell them immediately to make some profit to fund your collecting.

  3. The thrill of the chase. It’s really hard to score PSA 10s on cards. It provides an extra thing to strive for and an added challenge for older collectors that are looking for a little bit more to add to their collecting fun.

  4. Perfection. Condition is everything, and PSA provides a standardized way of evaluating condition. You know that a PSA 10 card will be in superb condition. You don’t have to stress about that. In addition to this point, the PSA cases are visually appealing and show off cards very well. I’ve had many cards that I haven’t fully appreciated until I got them back encapsulated.

Grading isn’t for everyone of course, and not everyone should do it. It isn’t a golden ticket to wealth or a satisfying collection. I have many (most likely unpopular) opinions about its prevalence in the hobby right now…but that’s for a different post.

Yeese you see I love watching my grades come back on blastoiserules channel… ITS LIke the greatest times in history, because thats were im at in my life. You know how fun its going to be to see my no rarities come back… I hope so

I was personally very interested when I first learnt of no rarity. But it seems there are many more around then I thought, and they’ve lost that appeal to me. I can definitely see them dropping to about the english holo price one day. You can get 3 english venus at that price, insanity to pay that

exactly the sexual gratification from having all 10s is amazing for my OCD. 10s just look visually appealing. It’s just that long one and that curvy zero. SCHWING!!!

Good points Pokesyn and 4thstar.

A big complaint I have though is, Japanese cards are made waaaay too well. A 9 is almost always a disappointment and NEVER a goal. This is probably why Japan residents are never graded card collectors. I mean…what’s the use;)

Yes it has to be a 10 and a 9 is just so disappointing that I throw things. The no rarity mint 9s however I would like to hoard when they come up.
Also I was thinking… You made a good point about Japanese card collectors never grading… This will make it harder to obtain or find those older cards in better condition… The older stuff has been floating through Japanese collectors households for years now.

Many mint no rarity cards on eBay, even some 10’s. Still no1 knows where they pulled from. Yeah right!
And they’re made only for 2 weeks? hmmm

However, those short packs, even though they might not (all) contain no rarities, are rare as fuck or why I can’t find pictures or videos about them? ^^

The pokemon place told me he got those mint 9 cards ages ago off yahoo Japan. He has had them for a while. It seems everyone has listed there shit up all at once all and they have been flushed out, but I asked syuju17 about them agaib and he replied saying you might get another chance in 1 to 2 years with a venusaur. I reckon he will get more in the next couple of months so yeah… I gotta prepare some how.

@ pokemonsyndicate (sry, dunno how to reply XD)

So he won’t tell where he got them. 1 or 2 years pffff He just telling you to bid even higher  I think it’ll go for the current bid if you quit.

xD NO he wont tell me I have messaged him 20+ times now. ANd I always get similar replies. I am annoying the absolute shit out of him, and i can feel it in my plums. However, I am a good customer, so he has patients with my annoyances.

I am going to quit, because I have to get the set, and I have decided to let it go, but I might do something drastic at the last minute because IM an idiot… But will see. If so, my charizard gold star 1st ed will have to go up on the bay because I still need to get the monrae back for the set.

This just in, BGS has finally gotten back to me about no rarities and whether they will grade them @garyis2000 and they asked me for pictures, and so I sent them pictures of gyarados no rarity and highlighted and compared to the normal psa 10 gyarados up on ebay. WE WILL KNOW THE THINGS SOON!!!

only 2 days and 8 hours till the shit hits several fans at an accelerated rate.

Stay on top of BGS and you’ll get what you want brother:)

Does BGS also grade Japanese Pokemon Cards? I know very little about BGS but they interest me more than PSA.

Also, for those who replied to my question(s). I get the chase thing now. That makes a lot of sense too. I once had a PSA 7 Gyarados and wanted it in 10 and then thought about having the others. But I’ve accumulated about 100 different variations of cards for Gyarados so that’s a no-go. XD

Yes bgs grades Japanese pokemon cards and I am very interested in them too. I want pristine of my old school ex and I want to cross them over because I think I will never find them pristine like I have now.
