English - Really only collecting english because thats what i had as a kid. Only doing shadowless base holo set only at the moment but plan on moving through all wotc/ex sets once I’m finished getting all the holos in each set going upwards from base.
Japanese - In general I prefer the card look and the better quality of japanese cards, combined with the lower price and better promos these are the reasons my collection is mainly japanese cards. I’m currently collecting psa graded play promos, crystals, shinings, the masaki set, random promos I like and all of the sets from the xy block as well as gym 1 and 2.

need to get some more in 2 weeks cos I want different eras colour coded.

Japanese always! Just better quality as already stated.
English will always have the nostalgia, just doesn’t compare to japanese though. I only collect up to the neo series also.

I collect Charizards in every language, but stick to English for everything else.
After approx one year of collecting again, I have reached the stage of preferring the Japanese cards compared to the English. I never thought this would happen, and in fairness I still prefer the backs of English cards, but the contributing factor to this decision is that the front borders of the English cards are extremely brash, and draw attention away from the rest of the card. Of course mainly talking about WOTC stuff here as that’s what I collect. Had to post this somewhere.
