It’s too easy. Too rubbery, too claylike. How else do you explain it that when a pokemon is first featured on a card it is always computer? And then the second or third card is regular art!?
It’s easier, faster and cheaper(in the sense that it doesn’t have any artistic appeal to me, its the embodyment of profit over quality) imo.
Yet, I do understand why they do it. And I can even accept others liking that style and am not bothered that they offer it. But now I have seen that vaporeon I feel they should do many more cards that way (EXes that is).
As a professional animator who does both 2d and 3D, I can tell you a still image drawing is always going to be way less work than a 3D piece of artwork by a long long shot. At least starting from scratch. Now they reuse the 3D model and all that for multiple cards; but I’ve seen multiple remodelings, texture work, and particle dynamics on many of the modern 3D cards.
This isn’t like it’s just the present as well, many of my favorite cards from base set are in 3D such as gastly and haunter (as well as many others)
There are multiple cards in clay as well throughout the Pokemon sets. I love the diversity in art, so I again am going to respectfully and completely disagree with calling it cheap
Haha, no just kidding. I am just finding ways to use office memes I recently found XD
like I said, I called it cheap in the sense that it doesn’t show variety in EX cards. It comes off as laizy. I do agree that it has its place in the tcg, I also love some of the "computer"cards. But I have to keep saying this, the new EX cards look to quickly made. Just like many of the EX magma vs aqua and Team Rocket Returns cards.
Luckily we both get what we want and can both enjoy the tcg as a whole.
cool that you are designing yourself. I am trying to make a 3d model off of our lacrosse team logo so it can be printed on a 3d printer. I have a friend who has his own little company, I do understand how hard it can be and how much time it does take when you do it well. Do you have examples of your work?
yes, I’ll shoot you a message when I get home of some of my 3d stuff, don’t want to clutter up the thread. if anyone needs anything like that or 3d animation though always feel free to message me
SO MUCH NEWS. Lucario holo. Mandibuzz BREAK promo. New Garchomp EX promo with possible M Garchomp EX. Magiana = Magearna in English; confirmed as a Mythical Pokemon.
I didn’t wanna say it, but I’m sure I’m not the only one that read it that way the first time we saw the name. It is also kind of ironic they made a Mandibuzz BREAK now since that also had a questionable direct Japanese → English translation. “Vulgina” for those curious…
I figured she had a good chance to appear in this set as the Darkness line that had gone the longest without being used. I’m expecting Darumaka and Darmanitan because of the same reason, only for Fire.
I’d actually disagree. In principle it sounds really good (just like M Sceptile-EX) but actually getting everything to fall into place will be hard.
It’s attack is low energy, but it still takes a lot to set up. In order to OHKO an EX @ 170HP (this format is either about OHKOs or stall) you need 4 damage counters/40 damage to begin with. Alakazam’s ability is helpful, but only works once. In reality you’ll maybe get out 2 M Alakazams per game, which means you’ll need to reliably place 2-3 damage counters per turn on your opponent’s active, which is easier said than done.
I’ve actually ran a deck like this before in M Gallade. It’s really hit or miss. I think Alakazam is maybe a bit more viable than Gallade, but not by much. If you get out your Zams and Bats early and start spreading damage then that’s great, but if you can’t, then you don’t exactly have a backup plan. Plus the advent of Expanded format and Maxie’s Hidden Ball Trick + Archeops (prevents evolving) also shuts down this deck.
