Japan’s XY10 Set: ‘Awakening of Psychic Kings'

so…5 unique copies of Alakazam. I’m going to need a bigger display case at this rate.

edit : also my heart can’t take these full arts, definitely going to have to collect both english and japanese this set

Just had a look at all the fa cards and I gotta say I’m impressed with them, they all look good in my opinion, glad they hit the spot with the UR this time as the multi mon ones aren’t so great until this point.

The FA Megas are still trash, the FA M Alakazam might be the best of the bad bunch of Mega FAs we have had but it’s still awful and would be vastly improved with the removal of the text and ‘effects’.

You are correct though, the FAs in general in this set are fantastic.

I’d say just about the only complaint about this set in terms of the artwork is that I don’t feel they did Altaria justice. It’s supposed to be one of the most beautiful pokemon (being the star of contests in OR/AS and all), but I was disappointed by three of the four cards, with the Full Art regular Altaria being the only one that was kind of redeeming. M Altaria was a primary example of how the attack text effects on Megas obstruct way too much of the picture, and I say that as someone who likes the gimmick in a lot of other cases. The alternating English/Japanese text helps to promote the international experience (much like how the Masuda method works in the video games) in my eyes, and being that Pokemon is very much a worldwide phenomenon, I think that it’s certainly something nice to have. Hopefully they just find ways to execute that idea better.

I hate the words on the Megas as well. It just ruins it.

I find this a fairly underwhelming set. I like very few of the full arts except for the Rocket’s Handiwork (hnnggggg) and the Umbreon. Everything else is just kinda boring and standard. UR Alakazam is probably the best of the gold-border EX URs we’ve had.

I agree with everyone that the words just take away from everything. Would love if they were gone, at least on the full arts.

I completely agree, the regular Altaria Full Art is the only nice looking card of those. The Mega Altaria EX FA looks really bad… The text makes it look even more odd. The text on Megas doesn’t even bother me usually but on that one is really badly placed. Plus, the M Altaria FA’s face looks very derp and the middle of the card looks… so empty…

I’m a huge fan of 3D modeled cards when they are done well (which isn’t the most popular opinion here) but the Mega cards text is something I just can’t stand in any language. It’s so annoying, takes up a lot of the card, and detracts from any of the Pokemon it is with.

I don’t get it and I really hope it goes away when the XY sets are done. Sooner would be great, but not going to happen

This is the first English secret rare I’ll really want. Tbe artwork is better than tbe regular FA.

I totally agree. A Alakazam Ex Gold Bordered UR with Lugia and Umbreon on the card. Does it get any better than that?

Alakazam SR: NEED

I’m thinking the same thing, it was what I was most looking forward to.

It’s part of the deck, not the set.

The amount of delicious full arts we have missed out on due to these decks really keeps me up at night.

Can you guys imagine though, if say 1 in every 6 decks cames with a full art Regirock EX, Zygarde EX ect.? It’d be a great way to move product, and we’d get full arts for everything. The metal decks with the silver Dialga were a huuuge hit, so why this concept was a 1 time occurrence is a bit weird to me.
