Is this Base Set 1st Edition stamp fake?

Is it just me, or does this stamp look shifted too far to the right?

I don’t know but it might be looking at it. It looks off

That looks fake to me.

It doesn’t look off enough for me to have a strong gut reaction. The “T” still lines up with the frame fairly well.

it is off alignment slightly, and the ‘1’ isn’t formed correctly.

It’s suspect at least.

I’ll start by saying that I just started looking into this today. I thought that the “T” alignment was the same for all base thin stamp holos.

I did a little research with what resources I had

I believe each of the 16 base holos has a slightly unique “T” location or distance from the gold text box that says “shellfish Pokemon” in Blastoise case.

And speaking of blastoise it appears to be one of the closer holos to the text box.
See pic below

As you can see it is about one “pixel” or “dot” from the box.

I compared a few other cards and they were generally 2-3 dots from the box (note these were not Blastoise)

I also compared it to 2 cards of the same card. This card was different by about one pixel or dot but I still personally think that both of the below are legit (any opinions)

I’m not sure how or when in the printing process the stamps are added. Its quite possible they can vary slightly. All the fakes we have seen have been off by a noticable amount without the need to zoom way in. But I’d be interested to hear any opinions from our senior members on how consistent base stamping was. Is a pixel off to be expected? Or was it always perfect? Given what we know about early WOTC issues I suspect they’re not all exactly the same to the pixel

Also @pfm had pointed out that the holo picture box width appears to be inconsistent too which can sorta be seen in the last pic. pfm has a better image

Also I made this little gif showing the slight difference in stamp “boldness” that can alter the way a stamps position looks slightly. I have also seen some that vary in position a little more than this.

Obviously I’m kinda splitting hairs here but I don’t think each stamp is pixel perfect the same even for the same stamp thickness and card
