Is this a fake card?

Hello,

I recently bought some Black star Promo Eevee Holo on eBay (photo 1 example front, photo 2 example back).

Once delivered, I noticed that one of the cards had a bubble on the surface.

Out of curiosity, I poked it a bit and, surprise surprise, the top layer completely peeled off, leaving a blank card.

I got another set of the same cards from the same seller and again I had the same occurrence happening.

In hand, the card “feels” like a proper card. Also, it is of the correct size and thickness, and the color seems ok.

I have never handled other copies of this card before but…still, this seems pretty weird to me

Are these fakes? I would really appreciate any input

Best regards

I can see just 3 of the pics that you posted, as far as I know these are fakes (I mean, I don’t think that the layer should peel off like this), I am sorry, but I would wait for other, more experienced, members to answer to your question

Edit: look at 9:50. How To Tell If A Pokemon Card Is FAKE! - YouTube

It definitely looks real from the first pictures but I have never seen a card peel like that. The border can definitely do something similar on the old ex cards. Seems weird to make fake $3 cards.

My eevee for reference:

If you would like to send the remains to me we can look at it under the microscope.

Newer cards definitely do…

Hi all, Thanks for the many responses.

@reinasierpe, Yes, I tried a couple of other cards, one from the same lot and another from another lot. The all peel very cleanly.

@pkmnflyingmaster, That looks very similar to mine :open_mouth:

@rattlebear, I also had the same though. I bought 10 of these for $8 total, I dont see why anyone would bother making $0.8 fakes. Also thanks for the offer of looking at them. I will PM you

First Off, I highly doubt someone would attempt to create a fake Black-Star Eevee! If you’re going to fake something, at least make it worthwhile! Haha

This “peeling” is actually possible with real WotC-Era Holo Cards! I actually have two Base Set 2 Holo Cards that when purchased within a collection were NM Condition minus a small area in the corner where the cards were actually starting to “peel”. So, I carefully continued to peel the holofoil and sure enough the holofoil actually completely and cleanly removed itself from the blank, white cardstock portion of the card.

I actually have a thread on here somewhere - this was going back a couple years though! I think we may have still been UPCCC when I got these cards! LOL Anyway, someone linked a YouTube Video of someone doing something to allow this “process” - some chemical that removes the glue between the cardstock and holofoil portion without actually damaging anything.

Hi @oldskoolpokemon, Thanks

I agree 100%, just the peeling is throwing me off. The other cards in the lot look actually very nice (Eevee is one of my fav). I just would like to understand if I actually own a legit card or not

Was not aware of this! It sounds exactly like my experience.

I will try to look for it! Thanks!

It happens to me as well in a WOTC card. It is a Ninetales from Base Set, in spanish. I cannot remember if it is 1st edition or not. Unfortunately I currently do not have access to my collection, so I cannot share a picture of the card. =(

I had the same Eevee do this to me back in the early 2000s. It peeled off completely clean. I still have the blank card.
